Just got a reminder notification to change the air filter on my 2013 RX. I last changed it last April and about 4,000 miles ago. What causes this reminder? Is it based on a dirty filter or is it based on miles or number of months?

I vaguely recall seeing this in one of the maintenance items when I was browsing through all the functions on the display. I do believe it is time/distance based, no actual sensors.

It's mileage set. They are not that smart to go by air flow restriction.

It would be nice if they were performance or usage sensitive, but they aren't. You can adjust the milage triggers, though.

As others have said: it's in the maintanence section of the display. You can set the reminder to whatever value you want ie; time or distance . Sounds like your's is running off the default or just reusing the previous settings.
