My right break light is out (Rx 350 2010 model) and Lexus service center quoted $ 700 to replace the entire panel, it seems excessive - does anyone have any insight or how we can change it in a bit more economical price?

Our 2010 MY rx350 (same as OP's) has halogen bulbs for rear tail lights. Only led lights we have is the third brake light top of hatch.
wonder what's wrong with OP's lamp assembly? It might be wiring? Fuses?

Dang, jeff made me look again. I confused myself with my old GM SUV. The "brake" lights are indeed LEDs, but the other rear lights are regular filament type bulbs. Hopefully the OPs malfunctioning light is actually a taillight and not the "brake" light. I'm gettin too old for this s***

They say you need to buy a whole new assembly, and the used ones are about $50. But if you buy used, you don't know how much life is left in it.
I would try to retrofit it myself. Buy an LED bulb, drill out the existing one and glue the new bulb to the light assembly.
I think this would work.

this is what happened to me as well at a Toyota dealership. their labor is cheaper than the lexus point down the street, and I had them replace it. it is not cheap. Why Lexus couldn't use a bulb is beyond me- particularly when the rest of the assembly uses normal 168 bulbs

yeah, it's true. though the LED in this unit doesn't really stick out as much as the newer generation's. as the new car buyer, I guess i'm just the unlucky sap that's victim to this engineering decision. in 2012 it must not have been cost effective have the entire unit be LED. at least the rest of the rear lights except the libby light are bulbs!

I had the same problem. The rear outside right light assembly contains a tail light (a replaceable bulb), a turn signal (also a replaceable bulb) and a brake light (NOT a replaceable bulb... this is a hard wired LED).
I replaced the tail light bulb and in the process inadvertently broke the wire running to the Brake LED. The wire broke down in the wiring connector which is easy to do as the wire Lexus used is too short and I had to tug on the socket to replace the tail light bulb .... bad engineering.
I removed the whole assembly and was able to use a small pointed soldering iron to solder a short piece of wire into the wire connector and then solder the other end to the broken wire end. I covered the joints with a short piece of shrink tubing..
This took about an hour and at virtually no cost other than a little solder and shrink tubing.
I found this site that explains this quite well and includes pictures.
