HappyDancer triggers Airbag Warning Light
My daughter's friend was dancing like a mad person in the front passenger seat. Now the airbag warning light is on. Do you think she may have broke something inside the seat or do you think it just triggered the sensor in the seat?

What year and mileage is your RX and do you still have warranty coverage?
Regardless of the issue, an airbag warning light needs to be looked at by the dealer. Since it appears to still be on when no one is in the seat, it seems that she may have damaged something, again the dealer can perform a diagnosis. If they think your friends daughter broke it, and they make you pay for it, you can then decide how to handle it with your friends.
Or just tell the dealer the light is on and do not tell them about the seat dancing. That is what I would do.

Lexus Test Driver
There are occupant detection sensors on the seat.
Hopefully it just needs to be zero-calibrate it and not a broken sensor(s).
A Lexus dealer would be able to perform this.

I know this isn't what u we're asking about, but I wanted to suggest not mentioning it to your daughter, her friend, or her parents. It's just not worth it in my opinion. I'd just eat the cost and keep it quiet. That's of course ur call. I just think it's not worth risking hard feelings over.

It could be something as simple as the wiring harness electrical connector for the airbag being wiggled loose underneath the seat. That is the first thing I would check. I would find it, disconnect it, then reconnect it. That may fix your issue.

The airbag system warranty is long (Mandated by the government regulation) I think it's more than 100k miles, so it's worth it to take it to the dealer first.
A few years ago my 9 year old Accord"s SRS light turned on, I took it to the dealer thinking it's a safety issue and I want it fixed right. The dealer fixed it for free, they said air bag systems are covered up to 150k miles. (The problem was a seat belt buckle btw, something I would have never guessed

Just took my niece's 2003 Honda Civic to the dealer for an airbag light and it needed to have the driver seat belt buckle receiver replaced and it was under warranty! Of course then they told be about the 2 bad motor mounts and failing lower control arm bushings, which I confirmed after doing my own inspection. It never ends with these old cars....
