The side view mirror completely blocks my mother's vision when turning left and taking curves, and I am looking to fix it. She is getting up there in age and this issue has caused more than a few 'almost accidents'.
Option 1:
Does anyone know/heard of replacing an rx350 mirror with one from a car that has a lower profile? If I could just trim off an inch of height... she would at least be able to see over it. Two inches would be even better.
Option 2:
Or does anyone know if I can take apart the mirror at the swivel, keeping the mount, and slapping on a different mirror to the mount?
It seems like option two would be the way to go as I don't think option one is feasible. There is quite a lot of distance between mounting bolts. And definitely want to try and keep things as 'stock' looking as possible. Meaning she wont let me put on some sleek looking aftermarket dealio that looks like it is from the future. I am not so worried about keeping the turn signal light, but I do need to keep the motor function working if at all possible.
Thanks in advance for any insight or ideas.

There are quite a few adjustments for the steering wheel and seat. I honestly would consider just looking into adjusting her seat and steering wheel position. If you look in the manual it shows how the seat and steering wheel should be adjusted. Seems like common sense but actually most people have it set up wrong, with the steering wheel airbag pointed at their face instead of their chest, headrests not at proper height, seat too low so u can't see out, etc..
Of course she needs to make the final call after the adjustments are made... that she is comfortable and that she can still safely operate the pedals and steering wheel comfortably, without stretching. If done right though the car should become easier to operate

You should get her a newer vehicle with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keeping assist and anti-collision automatic braking. Something smaller such as the new smaller Lexus SUV or a Mazda CX-5, RAV-4 etc.
