2012 RX vs 2015 RAV4
Good morning - I need a second car to replace my 05 Prius (bought new in 04) that finally bit the dust. I want to spend less than $20k was looking at a used Toyota RAV4 or maybe a Honda CR-V, either of which are easy to find. I realize that a more difficult to find option is an RX 2012 or 13 with probably a few more miles. Provided the seller can provide proof of regular oil changes and services, which is likely to be the more reliable or practical option? It will be the run-around, schlepp kids to college, get the Christmas tree, take the dog for romps vehicle that will probably get passed to DD when she graduates in 2022.
Any opinions? And other cars that I should consider?
TIA

Get the RAV4. I have an RX and a good friend has a 2015 RAV4 Limited model and I have spent time driving and riding in it. The RAV4 is far superior with regard to safety equipment, infotainment (Nav and Apps etc) and amenities compared to the RX. It is also the same size inside as the RX! I think the interior, at least on the Limited is nicer than the RX in many ways.
It may be a little slower due to the 4 cylinder engine, but it gets much better gas mileage. It is as comfortable and reliable as the RX.
Toyota has come a long way since the 3rd Gen RX was introduced in 2010. Get the RAV4. I am considering doing the same. It is a bargain with all the stuff it has for the price. Plus you can get a newer and lower mileage RAV4 for the same price as an older and higher mileage RX.

I'm going to focus on finding AWD which will make finding a Lexus even more difficult as there just aren't many available no matter how wide I cast my net, especially if I stay under $20. I'll probably end up with the RAV4 or perhaps a Honda cr-v.

With the Honda do not get the 1.5 engine as it has had many problems. https://autoweek.com/article/car-new...w-engine-power

Between those choices... I would get the older 2012 Rav4 Limited with V6 and third row. . They don't make Rav4 with v6 or 3rd row anymore. It has lots of power and the mpg is almost negligible. I wish they would have kept this engine and awesome 3rd row.
Then, for infotainment I would get an android unit that looks oem and install a backup camera. Then you would have all the amenities of the newer version vehicle
I had the 2007 Rav4 and altho i loved it so much, I could not get the exact same design for the next car. We still love the 2014 lexus RX but we miss that 3rd row, smaller size and great visibility. They should be alot cheaper now too.
Good luck.
