How many is too many miles?
We’ve decided to hunt for an RX350 and need one that is likely to give us 10 years/120 miles of dependable service. Obviously there’s no such thing as a sure thing but what should I try to stay within? Budget is $20k OTD. I’d go higher for a killer opportunity but would prefer to stay below. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to find private sales here. Carguru has 20+ available from dealers and 1 individual within 50 miles, while Craigslist has 1 in metropolitan Charlotte. I need it by the first week of June and I’m away for a week in May.
Is a reasonable lower limit 2010 w/100,000? My target is 2012/80k.
Thank you!

10k miles per year isn't bad and when researching reliability from real world users I found several owners that have had to just do maintenance and maybe a minor repair or three with well over 200k on their 3rd gens.

Groups like this are self-selecting. Guys who have one for 55k miles and move on to an Infinity don’t hang out here. That said, there isn’t anything to suggest that 150-200 isn’t completely reasonable.

It’s a function of years rather than miles but I looked at a 2013 w/95k miles and the leather looked terrible! Other than that the car looked wonderful. Maybe sat in the sun too much?

I think the seat leather quality in these later RX350s has declined from the earlier model years. The seat bolsters in my wife's 2015 RX with just over 38,000 miles are already beginning to show surface creases that eventually could turn into full-fledged cracks. Her vehicle is under the factory warranty until late August so we shall see what the local dealership will do about it.

The leather requires regular cleaning to reduce the appearance of such cracks. They are mostly dirt inside the cracked polyurethane coating on the leather.

Thanks for the tips. I still believe the 2015 leather quality is not what it was in my wife's previous 2004 RX330 or even her previous 2000 RX300. Even the leather in my 2013 Subaru Outback 3.6R is superior.

I contacted my local Lexus dealership regarding the surface cracks in the drivers seat bolster of my wife's 2015 RX330 yesterday. The vehicle remains under the factory warranty until August 21st. We shall see what remedy they decide to offer. I am guessing these are painted seats, as most leather seats are nowadays.

The local dealership contact is claiming that the degrading leather on the drivers seat bolster in my wife's 2015 RX350 is "normal wear and tear" in their opinion. I call bull*****. They never looked at her actual vehicle, just the photo of the seat bolster that I e-mailed to them. My wife's previous RX models (2004 RX330 and 2000 RX300) had much better-quality leather seats and never did this in more than 125,000 miles of ownership for both of those vehicles. I will open a case with Lexus Corporate and see how far up the flagpole I can raise this issue. The local dealership contact made the mistake of telling me that he sees this "all the time". A classic case of Lexus switching to inferior leather to save money, and us long-time Lexus owners already know that.

I bought a 2015 RX350 with 120,000 miles recently for 18,000 CAD. Just replaced the original battery since it didn't start when the weather was below 0. Drain and fill the tranny fluid. It was dark. Just wondering, how long does the alternator last on this GEN? Have anyone replaced theirs?
