Default Extending oil change interval by 2000 miles for exclusive highway driving

About 95% of the miles on my RX350 AWD will be highway miles with the RPM kept around 2k or under it. In city driving rarely does the RPM ever go past 2.4k. In fact, I don't know when the last time my RPM's went past 3.5k.

I put on the standard OCI milestone of 5000 miles in 6 weeks. I can't imagine the oil goes bad in this time span.

I don't tow but I do regularly carry a motorcycle on the back of the RX using a motorcycle carrier. The motorcycle is about 200 lbs.

Any thoughts on safely extending the interval to say 7000 miles?

As long as you are running a decent quality of the proper engine oil, a 7,000-mile oil change interval is not an issue. The owners manual for my wife's 2015 RX350 running 0W-20 synthetic oil shows a standard 10,000-mile oil change interval.

I'm not sure why you are not going the standard 10K for third generation RXs. As long as you are using the normal 0w20 you should be fine.

10,000, know plenty of people with your generation running it on 0W20 as mentioned above.

7k will be no issue at all.

Probably because the OP is from Canada (assuming SK for Saskatchewan). Up until recently, Toyota/Lexus specified the 10k interval for the us, but 5k intervals for Canada.

Ahh, I wondered what SK stood for.

But a Canadian would probably say 100Kg, not 200lbs

I do oil changes about every 7000 miles. Especially with mostly highway driving there is no issue at all.

Running Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge 0W-20 synthetic oil, I find the Lexus-recommended 10,000-mile oil change interval to be fine. I plan to stick with that for our duration of ownership.

For our previous 2000 RX300 and 2004 RX330 running Castrol 5W-30 conventional oil, the Lexus-recommended 7,500-mile oil change interval was also fine. So many folks waste oil and money by changing their oil much too soon. The 3,000-mile interval that so many shops recommend is merely a ploy to extract as much money from their limited-knowledge customers as possible.

When I used to commute nearly 2500 miles a month for work, I ran mobil 1 for 10k intervals. As long as your using any synthetic oil you will be fine. 7k is nothing.

We would probably still say 200 pounds instead of 90.7 kg depending on your age 😉

Much thanks all for the responses. I hadn't read the user manual. I'm impressed that I can go 16k kms (10k miles) and that's what Lexus suggests.

As for mixing metric/imperial, you'd be surprised how many Canadians in western Canada at least use imperial in ordinary parlance. As our speedos and road signs use km's, I specified miles in the OP because most of you are probably in the US. For everything else, we tend to use lbs, ft'in. Only in official discourse and in trade is metric used, and if so, literature always lists the imperial equivalent. Thus I used lbs for the weight of the motorcycle.

Take an oil sample and send it to Blackstone for analysis, that will give you actual proof based on facts. Everything else is just speculation.

Sounds like a good idea. I've already got a sample kit from them lying around which I intended to use for a car that I just sold off.
