Default Do you think this will protect the rear bumper?

I was thinking about buying something like this. https://www.vanguardoffroad.com/bump...e-tube-ss.html they say no drilling required.

Has anyone tried something like this? I wonder what kind of insurance issues this will present..... What happens if the damage (in case of an accident) to the rear end gets complicated due to the mounting points of this "guard" bending in some improper way? In fact , I always wondered what would happen if someone hits car with the steel bike rack attached. Will the insurance company account for that and pay out whatever the damage amount is? Or will they balk at it saying that the damage could be less because, without the special "guard" it will be around the bumper area........

Looks like California guys have same troubles as my friends in New York City have - no one cares about neighbor's car.
Almost all who I know lives in NYC have something like that.
It helps at parking, but in case of serious accident you car will have more damage and insurance will not pay for damage from aftermarket accessories and for accessory itself.
The best solution which I have seen was clear bra on bumper and some weird rubber thing like this or
this this
.
Also I have seen some cars bumpers in NYC fully covered with rubber or plastic.

Where does that thing mount onto? The bolts where the tow hooks are? That's the frame. If something hit that metal bar, if that metal bar doesn't deform, it'll move the car forward in a rear ender.

That is assuming it got rear ended by a sedan.

If it got rear ended by another RX with it's high front bumper, I think the bumper will get hit.

And tbh, I'd rather the deformable bumper get hit than the frame get rekt
