RX hybrid - locked and bolted
I'm on this forum as I own two Lexus models here in the UK. My friend Bryan has an RX hybrid with doors locked and an apparently flat battery. So far there seems to be no way to gain entry nor to raise the hood.
What seems weird to me is that turning the metal key in the driver's door lock does not deactivate the mechanism. I am sure that on my GS and IS-C this 'emergency key' acts mechanically and does not require battery power.
Bryan called out the AA (equivalent of your AAA in the US) and the problem had their patrolman beat. He will have been far more experienced than Bryan or me.
Do any of you guys have any advice to offer?

Have you tried the key in both doors? That key is the failsafe and should have worked. Maybe you need to turn it more or wiggle it around while turning.
You also may want to change the batteries in your fob and try again to open it. I think a locksmith could get you in, many of them provide mobile service.
You may have to tow it to a dealer. However, this link may help although it is for a different Lexus model.

Clutchless, thanks for your response. The key turns in both directions but does not operate the mechanism. There is no receptacle for the key in the passenger's door nor the tailgate. The fob along with the spare are active as the LED indicates.
It seems that the only remaining option is a tow to the Lexus workshop together with an expensive repair bill!
Poor Bryan will be even poorer!

For those who may be interested, an auto locksmith was engaged and his clear view was that the driver's window should be wrecked to gain entry and the hood released. Total cost including new window and battery replacement was around US $700.
The driver's key-operated door lock was not replaced and remains ineffective.

WHAT!!! NO WAY!!
How about try the rear hatch with the key blade?
If the above does not work, then how about use a "slim jim" on either side of the front windows? Just ask your locksmith.
