2013 F Sport oily PTU
After oil change my mechanic noticed the PTU (power transfer unit) in the front was slightly oily. Nothing drips on my driveway (its pavement so I'd notice) and there is no burnt smell. Oil picked up road dirt so it was black, and mechanic said it looked like engine oil. He has no idea where this comes from and suggested doing a dye test. He also said its a small leak dont worry about it.
What possibilities are we looking at here? Leaky oil pan? Timing chain cover leak ?

Did he check the PTU lube level?
Its all guesses until you clean it up and then monitor how it leaks. Could be the infamous timing chain cover, which is not worth fixing unless you have a spare $3000 to blow on a minuscule leak.
Go to one of those spray it yourself car washes where you pull into your own bay. You are going to get wet. Lay on the ground and spray the PTU etc and try to clean it off.
Spraying it with engine cleaner or oven cleaner first will help. Try to get the lower engine on the passenger side as that is where the timing cover is located.
Many mechanics will clean this for you as part of the leak diagnosis.
