Default vent air 2010 RX 350

Hi
What gives with hot air coming out of the vent when I have AC off and it's 61 outside? I don't like using AC and where I live is pretty much always a pleasant temp. Why can't I get that air to come in thru vent at the same temp it is outside? I turn the temp gage down to the same temp or lower as outside air and nothing, still hot air comes in when I have it on vent. Is it because the air is coming over the hot engine? Has to be a better way than having to turn down AC all the time. My 4 Runner's vent was awesome. matched outside air temp every time. Thank you in advance.

The air from the vent is warmer or colder than the cabin air depending on the temperature setting of the HVAC. Whether or not the AC is on. If it is 61 outside, and the AC is off, what temp do you have it set at? Try lowering the temperature. With modern cars, you really do not lose much if any gas mileage running the AC.

This vehicle does not appear to allow direct fresh air to flow in (My old 1994 Mazda MX-6 had the feature, I really liked it).

I set the HVAC to LO or the lowest number, still hot air out of the vent. It's too bad, I really don't like AC. I live in a great air quality place, would rather have that air.

Make sure you have the outside air mode on, and not the recirculating mode:

This will allow the pleasant outside air in the cabin

Then your vent system is broken. When both the passenger and the driver side temperatures are set to low, with the AC off, it should blow outside temperature air more or less. I drive my car with the AC off sometimes, and it does not blow hot air.

Something is wrong with yours, it's not normal.

OK, I'll have dealer check it out at next service then. Thank you.

Curious how low exactly is the LO setting? If the LO setting is 65, and it's 61 outside, then the Lexus nanny may still heat the incoming air. Please keep us updated on what dealership says.

The Lo setting puts the system into maximum cooling mode, it's no longer controls the temperature, it's just cooling to the maximum. That's why the display changes from degrees to Lo, because the thermometer no longer matters.
The same for the Hi setting, it just heats to the maximum.
Also, when you set the temperature to let's say, 65 degrees, the system is working to keep the inside of your car at 65, not the air coming from the vents.

Thanks non, I got a follow-on question. Does setting to LO automatically engage the AC, like defrost does, without user input? I've never had to go-to Hi or LO setting, just set it and forget it.
