2013 RX350 93k Dealer says needs new transmission
#16
I would agree with this, if Lexus is providing a complete new transmission it should not cost nearly this much for labor. I'm wondering if they are only willing to pony up just specific parts and expecting the dealer to disassemble and fix the existing transmission.

It is worth going back and asking al ine item breakdown of the labor charge [expect $125/hr]. My understanding up till now was that Lexus dealership service dept is only equipped to swap transmissions and the parts store has refurbished transmissions in stock.

UPDATE: Transmission has been replaced by my local Lexus dealer. Lexus agreed to pay for all parts. I was also given a discount on labor. My final cost was $1400.00. Yes, this did include the rear main seal. I believe Lexus wanted to get this transmission and see why it failed at 93,000 miles. Overall I am pleased with the outcome. And most importantly for Lexus, we will most likely buy another when it is time to get another vehicle. It did take about 30 calls over a week to get that final dollar amount. If this should happen to anyone in the future be sure to ask for the "WARRANTY or GOODWILL LABOR RATE." Only after talking to five different people did my labor costs magically go down by over $2,000.00. Thanks to all those that responded here.

Congrats on forcing Lexus to give you a significant break on the repair cost. Keep us posted on how the replacement transmission performs for you. Did Lexus tell you whether your replacement transmission was new or refurbished?
