Exhaust Leakage
My 450h seems to have an exhaust leak up near the manifold as far as I can see. It sounds like a steam train chugging. It was fine yesterday but occurred on start up so I haven't hit anything. The engine races but doesn't respond to the throttle until it's in drive, probably interferes with exhaust pressure sensors.
Anyone else have anything like this? I'm also wondering if this needs to go to Lexus (they haven't called me back yet) or will my local auto service be able to handle it as it's not traction system related.?

I am lost! So you already have taken it to Lexus? If yes, be patient and let them diagnose ... we will be making guesses. It can be a cracked pipe or loose flange which can be addressed by a muffler shop.
Failure to rev up in Park or Neutral needs its be diagnosed.
Exhaust pressure sensors??? Is that from a mechanic? I for one would be really interested in learning about it.

If the engine is not revving up in Park, you may not be holding the gas pedal down far enough. I noticed the engine will rev up to about 1500-2000rpm with the pedal all the way down. Recently had to do this on an RX450h for bleeding the cooling system.
To answer your question, an exhaust leak can be fixed by any mechanic who’s comfortable working with Hybrids.

The car is now at Lexus, I couldn't take the risk of the nearest auto-shop so had it towed. CAA very prompt and very efficient, kudos.
The report from Lexus is that the exhaust pipe is frozen?? They're keeping it for a couple of days to thaw it out then they'll drain it and inspect for damage and a possible cause. People have said that the exhaust heats the coolant system so there may be a fault.

I posted a response but can't see it anymore. Isn't technology wonderful. Now I see it.
The car is at Lexus and they report a frozen exhaust pipe. They have it for a couple of days to thaw out and then they'll remove the pipe, inspect for damage and look for a possible cause. Might be something to do with the exhaust heating up the engine coolant?

The car is back from Lexus, they thawed it out and emptied out the exhaust system. Too little driving, they recommend some highway blasts.
Thanks for the advice and support.

They're just angling for business, 45K miles is WAY too early to contemplate flushing the transmission.
As far as what "sealed for life" means, to an auto company, the "life" is over when they are no longer responsible for warranty coverage.
