Loose interior trim

As you can see the the brown trim piece has detached. It is metal, not wood. How should I attach it. I bought some 3M Auto tape, but wife thinks glue. Any thoughts

The brown piece in the photo is the cover for the cup holder. It is designed to move up and down. You press on it to release it.

I thought that piece changed from brown fake wood to silver fake metal in different model years or trim levels. Look at some online photos.
I would just slap some glue on and stick it back down.
