2015 RX350 Base FWD replaced Rear Main Seal and Engine Timing Cover
Had the car in to the dealer due to a screw in a tire (Tire and Wheel policy) and figured they would just replace the tire. Nope.
Reported the Rear Main Seal leak as well as the Engine Timing Cover also leaking. Total bill came to $3900. Just short of 59000 miles.
Glad I bought a Certified Used RX350...as well as extending the coverage 2 years, so I'm good until July 2023. My part of the $3900 was $0. Gotta love that.
The Rear Main Seal seems to be a common thing with the 3.5L v6...timing cover leak...not as common, but Whoa...was that expensive!
Dealer provided a loaner car as well. Not sure the UX200 F Sport was designed for real people to sit in. But it was fun to drive once I got in...haha.
Even found a deal on replacing the other tires...so I had them do that and a 4 wheel alignment. Nice to have fresh tires again.
Continue to be impressed by the service the dealer provides, even if I don't go there often....because it can get pricey.
If you can...have a dash cam for your next dealer service. Can be revealing on how things get done.

That is because the timing cover oil leak is a BS repair. They never leak enough to do more than make the lower side of your engine dirty and Lexus dealers richer from doing the repair. Almost the only way to see the leak is to remove the passenger front wheel and look at the side of the engine.
If it happens to mine I would never repair it as it is not worth spending $3000 or more to repair a minor oil seep leak. Especially on a vehicle 5 to 11 years old.
Now your rear main seal may also have had a slight leak, but I also suspect it was very small or non-existent and the dealer knowing you had extended repair coverage decided you needed these repairs so they could make their boat payments next month.

If the car wasn't under coverage....no way would I have paid them the $3900 they billed Toyota. Since like I mentioned before, I haven't found any proof of the actual leak.
Food for thought for others with this "issue". "Trust but verify"...haha.

There are 3 states for the seal/gasket
1. Dry
2. Seeping
3. Leaking.
It has to leak before I would touch it. Now if there is Leak and in the process I can fix the seep, then it is fair game.
