Default Considering a 2014 RX

Question for those of you will surely have the answer!

I am looking at purchasing a 2014 Lexus RX with 88K miles on it. One owner, all service completed through Lexus (according to Carfax).

What potentially expensive repairs am I in store for, and how many miles can I hope to get out of the lovely vehicle?

thanks so much!

That is indeed a very subjective question. Much depends upon how well the vehicle has been cared for. At that mileage, the vehicle may be in need of new suspension components such as shocks, control arms, and bushings. But those repairs are to be expected and should not scare you away from a well-cared-for vehicle. Fresh ATF would also be a very good idea if the service records do not reflect that this service has already been taken care of.

There is nothing that is a statistical stand out cause for major repairs. No particular reason you can't push it to 20 yrs and 200,000+ miles with basic repairs and maintenance. As with everything else, bad things happen to good people and good vehicles, but your odds are good.

Is it the 350 or 450h?
I bought a 450h, 2010 model in May last year with about 115k miles and have loved it every day. Just like your car it had all maintenance records.
I did end up changing some front suspension parts but the car is pure butter.
Did the regular change of spark plugs, brake fluid, transmission fluid etc.
I'd say go for it.

Sounds like you might have found a great car. I went thru the same process as you about 6 months ago when I found a 2010 RX350 with 71.6K miles on it. One owner, meticulous service record, excellent shape. With help from this Club Lexus community they provided some great resources and advise regarding maintenance that really helped guide me and I’ll share with you.

First, check Lexus Drivers website for vehicle maintenance history and cross check against the Car Fax report. The site is free. Just enter the vehicles VIN and all maintenance performed at Lexus should be on the report.
Look to see if the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) has been changed. Refer to another thread in this forum for in depth discussion but in a nutshell Lexus claims the ATF is good for the life of the vehicle which, I along with others believe that’s false. I had mine changed shortly after buying the vehicle and will have that service performed about every 50K going forward.

Another maintenance item is the coolant. Lexus recommends first change at 100K and I believe every 50K thereafter. This is another service I had performed and will have done every 50K or so. Spark plug change at 120K.

One other thing you might want to consider and wish I had known about prior to buying the car (if buying from a Lexus dealership) is ask them to update the navigation map system as part of the deal.

Sounds like the car you’re considering buying is a beauty. With regular maintenance you should be able to get 250K+ out of her.
Good luck with your pursuit!
