Default Hatch motor opens and closes with remote, and not hatch button

This is interesting, but the hatch button will unlock the hatch, but will not cause the motor to engage and lift. If I use the remote button or the inside button, the motor works great opening and closing. Has anyone ever experienced this? I wonder if there’s a way to reset it? We are using the remote or just manually forcing it up (most often), but I don’t want to be ruining the motor.

Specs: 2013 Lexus RX350 F-Sport
I’ve only owned this for a month, and bought it as the 3rd owner with 71k miles and no owners manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CL, that low mileage sounds like a great used car find. You can go to the Lexus Drivers Site, join and enter your VIN to access the owners' manuals and see the dealer service history for your new to you RX.
https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/

What you describe with the hatch is normal. If I recall correctly the dealer may be able to set the hatch to power open with the motor when you press the hatch button. This has been asked and answered before, so a little searching should give you the definitive answer.

My owners manual is in the hidden compartment located in the center console.
Did you look there?

@Clutchless - thank you for the info. Yes, we think it was a great buy. I’ll check out the forums as you suggested.

@Raoul - yes we checked in the hidden compartment. Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve found online and I’m going to double check it against the one Clutchless suggested.

Thank you both for the help.

You won't ruin the motor, it's made to be operated either way.
The dealer can enable this feature for you. Download the manual, it has all the information.

this was the same issue I had, had to get it programmed and now I'm able to use the tail gate button.
