Default 2011 RX350 Creaking Steering

I recently noticed a creaking sound coming from passenger side front when turning the steering wheel. I tried greasing the boot where the steering column goes through the firewall. Also, put a smear on the hood adjusters. Car has 85,000 miles. Any ideas?

thanks,
Ray

Shop say it’s coming from the calipers. I’ll pick up later today and see if it’s solved.

I think the calipers would be an unusual source for that noise. Perhaps the two main bolts holding them in place somehow loosened up and only complain during sharp turns. Keep us posted.

Could be sticking caliper slide pins making the pads rub etc. Or a bent rotor shield rubbing.

Could also be Strut mount going bad. Had a similar issue with a Toyota Camry

The tech cleaned and lubed the brake pins, pads and checked bushings and bearings. It still made the creak. The tech came out with me and claimed the sound that I was hearing was normal. He said, he owns the same car and it’s normal. I’m accepting this for now. It’s not very loud. My wife is the primary driver. I’ll have to drive it more often. My 2015 Camry SE has electric power steering and I don’t hear the noise. At 84,500 mi, I was expecting struts.

thanks for the responses,
Ray

It's very hard to locate where a sound is coming from while diving. It could be coming from inside the cabin. Check the glove compartment for loose items.

If it is happening while turning, it could suspension related. Turning sends the weight towards a corner where parts of the suspension are flexing under weight.

I was expecting struts or strut top bearing from what I’ve found on forums. It almost sounds like a spring torquing up and releasing/slipping.

thanks for putting up me. It’s probably OCD-tinnitus,

Well, it still makes the noise. I can hear the same noise opening the hood. I removed the strut and still heard the noise while raising and lowering the hood. Do the hood hinges get lubed?

it doesn’t seem to be a safety concern. However, I died have to replace my alternator. Ouch!

You can always lube the hood hinges. You can then lube the hood latch, the door hinges, the rear hatch hinges etc etc. Get some spray lithium grease, or garage door lube in a spray bottle.

^^ What he said. I use a spray can of white lithium grease. I try to remember to do it once per year.

Thank you! I’ve gone a little crazy with wd40. Still noisy. I’ll try the lithium.
