My 2012 RX 350 purchased recently won't lift the rear hatch door when pressing the button (above the license plate) on the door. It opens the door, but does not lift the door. In order to lift the door, I need to press the button on remote or the button on front dashboard to the left of steering wheel. Is that by design? Thanks

It is “normal” for the rear door not have the auto lift feature as that is how it was previously programmed. There are various programming combinations regarding door lock / unlock features as well as how the rear door opens which can be reconfigured at a Lexus dealership. Refer to owners manual for more info.

I tried to reprogram a 2010 RX450h with Toyota Techstream and noticed this option was not available at all. Not sure if the feature became available as a Lexus Personalized Setting on the later model years. I know this feature is a common point of confusion for a lot of new RX owners as most modern tailgates lift automatically.

I believe u need to keep pressing the door buttin for at least 2 seconds - check the manual.

The spin on the manual lift operation was that it let you control how high the
rear door would open to avoid striking a garage door. Rear door open
position was not customizable until the 2016 redesign.

This happened to me numerous times, I found the trick to be PUSH THE BUTTON BEFORE OPENING YOUR DOOR, also push button in glove box.
