I am installing rear facing dash cam and want connect it to 12v dc somewhere inside cargo door trim.
I was trying to find 12V with multi meter (when the car is on, lights off) but failed to do so.
Can some one help with the right schematics of the back door wiring, or share his experience if and where can I connect.
I have attached image of the door without the trim to help identify the right location.
I don’t remember as it was so long ago, but I tapped into the rear windshield wiper. Be careful as one of the wires will lose power if you use the rear squirter.
@MattRX Thanks a lot for the schematics. Nice idea, didn't removed the top trim...
As I understand this connector is not present on my images and should be on the top back door, right?
And what do you mean by "Be careful as one of the wires will lose power if you use the rear squirter" - when I will use squirter the camera will lose the power for a few seconds and then it will come back again ?
@MattRX Thanks for the photos! So, seems that it will be easier than I expected.
BTW, I was thinking to place the camera on bottom or on left side of the window. I don't want that it will distract the view in the rear view mirror.
Does it bothers you that the camera installed in the center and you do see it in the mirror ?
@MattRX Thanks again for your idea and the wonderful schematics !
You made my installation quick and easy, straight to the point. Last Saturday I spend more than hour sitting in trunk with multimeter and trying to find the right spot
I have added a few images in order to make life easier for the next one coming to this thread:
Placement of connector: Placement of rear wiper connector. Has constant 12V when car is ON
The actual wires that I have used, black and white is ground.
Wires for accessory 12v, black and white -> ground, black ->12V
And below the connector there is a wonderful place to put a 12V to 5V convertor and secure it inside the door.
