I did this on my then new 07 Camry SE to install my Momo chrome and carbon fiber shifter that would burn the hell out of my hand when it sat out in the sun lol. Buy a nut the size of the stud so you can use it as a guide to cut against so you don’t ruin the threads.
Just remember that while in drive it sticks out what seems like 25’ but in Park it doesn’t stick out that much. I hate that most manufacturer's still install traditional shifters that take up so much room instead of simple dials or buttons since it’s all electronic anyways. The cars that do give us actual usable space have ppl on plain that there’s no shifter like there 1978 Toyota Corolla had.

Automatics did come with switches a long time back and then shift lever won out. In any case safety things have been added (evolved) and we have a release button or shift-gate and gear-up/down pedal or rove action. I am trying to convey that there is engineering behind it for events which a normal driver does not think of ... such as accident, where a recovery person/team secures the vehicle and simply pushes the lever from Drive to N with a long stick.

Your being very nice to most haulers lol. Most of them don’t even bother taking the car out of gear without it having been in an accident, if the owner isn’t present that is.
