Default Buying a Used 2015?

After 10 years, my beloved 2010 Batmobile bit the dust after a "weather event."

I'm looking to replace it with another RX 350 and I'm finding that the grill change on the 2016 and newer are very unappealing to me, so I am focused on 2015 and older.

Is it totally impracticable to buy a 6 year old RX 350? What would be your upper limit on mileage for a used RX?

Depends on how many years are you planning to keep it and how many miles you average per year. Since the 2015 RX is one of the most reliable and trouble free models, I would expect 180k miles before it is time to replace it. After that the risk for expensive repairs increases and becomes economically inefficient. Yes with a lot of DIY repairs can go 300k miles but a lower mileage would provide less headaches. In summary, a 2015 with 100k miles might have another good 6-7 years at typical use with 12k miles per year.

I would also check maintenance records. Do you just see oil changes or it has been properly maintained with brake fluid changes and transmission fluid changes?

Yeah, it will not even be driven that much, being a car in a second home down south. I am looking at cars with 60,000 miles on them and friends are kind of aghast but I figure with the limited use I am expecting, it should last a while, I hope?

By the way, you mentioned the 2015 is considered one of the more reliable ones, is there some sort of database that ranks the RX by year?

You can check Consumer Reports. The RX is extremely reliable.

Most bugs were fixed in RX350 starting in 2013 (metal vs rubber oil lines...). For a second car, 100K should be an fine target.

Metal oil lines were introduced late 2011. Not 2013.

go for low mileage (eg 30k or under) with full service history from Lexus. Also the Rx450h for better drive and fuel economy.

Documentation I saw a couple of years ago noted that the metal oil cooler line (replacing the original rubber line that tends to rupture and leak) did not show up until the 2013 model year. Where have you seen documentation indicating that it was introduced in 2011?
