Default Wife's 2015 rear hatch issues

My wife has MS and prefers to use the buttons to open and close the rear hatch in her RX350. The hatch started acting up a several months ago.

The button would open the hatch...but, using the button to close the hatch didn't work right. The hatch would start to close and at almost the halfway point of closing, it would beep and stop closing and go back up. I found no issues in closing it manually.

Now, the button to open the hatch will not open the hatch. It will beep when you try to use the button. The hatch can be opened and closed manually just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? I would think it is either the motor wearing out for opening / closing the hatch or the rear hatch shocks wearing out???

This has been discussed many times and if you search "hatch struts" you will find out more.

However in my opinion you should:

Replace your hatch struts first as they are inexpensive and are known to wear out. Hope that resolves your issue because the hatch motor replacement is uncommon and expensive.
You can get new hatch struts here and find instructions on youtube as they are the same on almost every Toyota & Lexus with a hatch. It takes only a few minutes to replace them, but get a ladder or long 2x4 to hold the hatch up, or a strong friend.

Thank you for your response. TBH...this is how a response should be done when a question comes in. I was in fact doing a search for hatch shocks and you let me know the search should be hatch struts. Thank you for that!

You also gave me good advice with a link for replacement products with steps to be careful of. If you were one of my employees, this would be on your good list for the next review.

New struts came in. took 5 min to install them. The rear hatch is back to working like new. In fact, the new struts show how worn out the others were in how much stronger they are. Ordered some new ones for the hood. They are wearing out too.

Replaced the hood struts. So much better!!! They really made it so simple to do.

My Wife's 2015 rear hatch stopped working recently. Searched here on the forum. This thread popped up. I just ordered the struts. They should be here in a couple of days. I'll post back to confirm that fixed the issue.

Interestingly enough, when I had the dealer do an oil change a couple of months ago and they told me the front struts were not able to hold up the hood. True and they wanted a couple of hundred dollars to replace. I bought struts online for about $60 and took 5 minutes to change them out. Problem solved. I hope the rear struts cure the auto open.
Stay tuned....

Love this forum!

Same issue here. Ordered strut through Amazon and they occasionally popped when opening. Returned the Amazon struts and bought OEM from LexusPartsNow. Works perfectly now.
