Potential RX350 Buyer
Everything I've read indicates you should look at the 2010+ models and avoid the 2007-2009 RX 350. I am seeing the RX330 go for much cheaper. Under $5000k. I have read the RX350 is much quieter and interior is better quality with better tech. Saw comments saying the RX330 feels really dated compared to the RX350. I like the rearend of the 2010+ refresh on the RX350. That shifted my focus to the RX350 which the 2010-2011 models seem to be in $10-12k range with 140k+ miles.
How bad is the dash cracks on the 2007-2009 models?
How bad are the oil leaks on these engines?
What cool features made you consider the 2010+ model or even 2013+ model over the 2007-2009?

Welcome to CL.
2010 was a complete redesign of the RX, not a refresh. It was the start of the 3rd gen RX. You need to go drive a few, there are many out there. It is basically a Toyota Highlander with lipstick (better features and soundproofing)
This forum is for the 3rd gen 2010-2015 RX and there is another forum linked above for the 2nd gen which is up to the 2008+ RX. There are some late 2009 3rd gen RXs I think.
I would avoid the 2nd gen. It is very dated, the 5 speed automatic transmission is terrible and they are getting very old now. It also has hydraulic power steering vs the 3rd gen has electric power steering which is more reliable.
With the 3rd gen, I would try to get a 2013-2015 as they did a mild refresh in 2013 fixing most of the early problems and updating the infotainment and adding some more safety features.
You need to go to the 2nd gen forum to ask your questions about the 2007-2009 model dash cracks etc.
The oil leaks are minor as most of the main problems have been fixed by Lexus, such as the oil cooler on the tow package on 2010-2012 models where they replaced the rubber hose with metal.
The 3.5 liter engine timing cover leak is very minor and never makes you add oil, it just makes a small mess. However the engine has to be removed to fix it at a cost of $3000! It is not worth repairing.
To see if it leaking you have to pull the right front tire and look through the wheel well at the lower front of the engine. There are threads here that discuss it with photos.
Good luck car shopping.

FYI, having had a 2004 RX that had dash cracks, Lexus did cover this issue and replace the dash. If you find one that still has the cracks, the time period to get it replaced at no charge has passed. Personally, having both the 2004 and 2014- 2nd and 3rd gen- I found the '04 to have a softer ride. Had the '04 for 16 years 'til it was totaled and the only issue it had other than regular maintenance was an issue with what I believe was a steering leak after having it for 15 yrs.

After 3 yrs in service, the dominant factor is care and use of the vehicle. You need to asses the value of features as they have been added over the years even within a generation. Examples are blind spot monitoring, rear camera guide lines etc.
I would suggest prioritize what is important to you. You may have to compromise on color etc or simply wait till the right one becomes available. Establishing a price is pretty hard these days.

Even the 3rd generation is getting old and dated.
So the real question is, are you looking to save money on the 2nd generation or buy a second generation with lower mileage and better condition with the same budget?
