Default Toyota Highlander 17" OEM rims on 2010 Lexus RX450h?

Good afternoon. Long time reader, first time poster here.

My 2010 Lexus RX450h came with 19" factory OEM rims. I want to downsize to 17" rims for winter tires. On my local Craiglist someone is selling rims identified as "08-13 Toyota Highlander Factory OEM wheels".

From the seller's pictures (attached below), I have further identified the rims as Toyota part number 42611-0E140. These are the OEM factory rims for 2008-2010 Toyota Highlanders with the 17" wheel option.

Would these rims fit on my 2010 Lexus RX450h?

I have identified the following specifications as identical across my car and these rims:
Hub Bore: 60.10mm for both
Bolt Pattern: 5 x 115mm for both
Offset: 35mm for both

The thing I'm not sure about is whether the insides of the these rims would clear my brake calipers or not.

I have found other third gen RX owners who report successfully downsizing to 17" rims, and most of them recommend OEM Toyota/Lexus rims. But I have not seen anyone who report success with OEM Highlander rims yet, unfortunately.

I have used www.Wheel-Size.com in the past to guide me in wheel fitment questions.
The recommended rims sizes for your 2010 RX450H is listed as 18", 19" or 20" rims (see: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/lexu...x450h-usdm-295)
In the past, I used 17" Toyota rims on our 2008 RX350, but 17" rims was one of the listed factory sizes for that vehicle.
I suspect that there would be limited clearance using a 17" rim on your 2010 RX450H ... you would certainly want to test fit them before buying them.
Best to check the current clearance with your 19" rims ... if you have more than 1.25" of clearance between your 19" rims and your brake calipers, the 17" rims should fit. Keep in mind that if you have 1.25" of clearance with your 19" rims, then you will only have 0.25" of clearance with 17" rims. I did a quick search of the internet and 3 mm (1/8") seems to the the minimum clearance requirement since brake calipers can expand while driving, due to heat build-up.

There is no need to go for 17”. 18” with winter tires works perfectly fine.

Thank you for your input. I'll make some detailed measurement of my brake calipers before deciding.

You're right. Good point. I didn't yet buy anything yet so it's not too late to go with 18" rims and tires.

I initally picked 17” because the 17" tires were cheaper than 18". If there are fitment issues then it's safer with 18". Thank you for your input.

I'd go 17, cheaper for winter tires and more comfy for how rough they are + more sidewall folding over for more grip on slushy days. Got 19" winter for the '14 RX and it is really rough and there is no good cornering advantage with winter tires no matter what you try.

They'll clear the brake calipers as the Highlander it came with had the exact same front brakes, hub, etc. Factory brakes for our cars are designed to clear 17" wheels minimum.

I took a quick measurement on our 2014 RX450H with 19" factory rims and found the clearance between the rim and the brake caliper to be about 30 mm (1.18 inches). I say "about 30 mm" since I only used a tape measure as I did not have an inside diameter caliper handy to make a more accurate measurement.

If the inner profile of a factory 17" rim is similar to a factory 19" rim, then you should have 1" less clearance on the 17" rim ... thus resulting in about 0.18 inch (4.6 mm) of clearance ... in theory at least.

In my way of thinking, 0.18 inch (4.6 mm) may be enough for thermal expansion due to braking, but is not enough clearance considering the mud and gravel that can accumulate on the inside of a rim, as in our case we occasionally travel on gravel roads. On California highways it might be OK.

If your are inclined in changing to 17" rims, I would certainly suggest a test fit before buying ... I expect the clearance to be tight ... the question is how tight and is that clearance acceptable for your driving conditions.

In 2019 after I purchased my 2010 Lexus RX I bought some 2012 Highlander wheels off craigslist. I spent a lot of time searching the forums and believed they would fit. Bought new winter tires and swapped out the center caps with Lexus ones.

I had no issues mounting the wheels but quickly heard during the test drive that the rear suspension was rubbing on inside of wheel. The rear suspension is different between the RX350 and the Highlander of this generation. The RX (2010-2015) has a double wishbone while the Highlander (2008-2013) has a McPherson strut. I think others have mentioned they've had luck with 17's but that was certainly not the case for me.

I ended up selling the wheels and tires to my neighbor who has a 2nd generation RX330 and they fit with no issues, I ended up just going to tire rack and buying 18 inch aftermarket wheels and tires for my winter set.
