Default Hood Latch issues

Hi All -
I've run into an issue with my hood not closing all the way - there a bit of play in it after closing and I'm thinking the latch may be shot. I thought it might just need an adjustment to the 2 adjustable bumpers that keep the hood from rattling.
The bumpers are not the problem since my hood is simply not closing all the way and the hood panel is not aligning with the fender panels. I moved them up and down anyway to be sure and luck solving the problem.
Can anyone guide me to a source that explains how to remove the latch (or adjust if that possible)? I may need a new one but would like to get this old one off so that I can take a look at it.

BTW, I've searched and wasn't able to find anything on removing the latch

Have you hosed the mechanism down in some sort of spray lubricant?

A local body shop could take care of this and I bet it will cost under $100
get some estimates

Thanks all for the replies -
I've taken it apart a couple of times hoping to figure this out - no luck
The latch look OK - no rust, damage or broking springs and everything moves smoothly - I cleaned it out with brake fluid and re-greased.
I was going to simply replace it but they are on back order with no ETA.
I'll take another shot over the weekend - this really has me stumped.

One think I was going to ask is do any of you know what the strange looking nut located below the latch on the front? It is covered by a plastic cap and looks like it might be some sort of adjuster - but not sure how it works or is applied.

Not an adjuster, I've had it off a couple of times when replacing A/C compressor, radiator etc. Just a bolt with a plastic cap for some reason...
