I have a 2014 rx350 f-sport and what I don't like is when I'm in auto it upshifts to the highest gear possible as quick as possible. Then it seems like it struggles to accelerate at low rpms and honestly gets kind of annoying. Almost like it's in the wrong gear. I don't think it's a problem per say but I think more for fuel economy I think. Either way anyone know if there is a software update I can get done to change or fix this? I find myself in manual mode a lot and keeping it in a lower gear and slightly higher rpms. Almost wish there was a "sport" button that did this for me.

Is the RX new to you?
Make sure it is not set in ECO mode [that is an option for my model]. The other thing is, RX has driver based learning. A reset to factory default and then learning again based on your driving style may be the ticket to happiness. You can reset by disconnecting the battery for about 1/2 hr. You may loose some of the settings and just make sure you do not swap the terminals on re-connect [so open only one end .. ground..]

Following. Have a ‘14 F-Sport as well. Resetting and taking it out of ECO didn’t do much to stop the gear hunting. 5 & 6 speed prior transmissions are a lot more smooth than this crappy 8-speed.
I’m finding myself using manual mode most of the time.

Both the 6-speed and 8-speed transmissions in these vehicles are mediocre at best. For those of you who have not yet done a series of ATF drain-and-fills, fresh ATF may improve your shift patterns and it should also decrease the probability of early transmission failure.

I have done the fluid twice, but have yet to do the filter on this RX. Fluid that came out was super red and in great shape thankfully. Maybe one day we'll get lucky and have some updated valve body or shift kit made - although who knows how well that would work anyway. What we need is a DCT

That is mostly the nature of the 8 speed transmission and a reason for much of the criticism it has received. Even the youtube Toyota/Lexus expert - The Car Care Nut has said he prefers the 6 speed for the way it drives.
The reason I got a used 2016 Toyota Sienna was due to the fact that it was the last year with the 6 speed and the older style engine without direct injection.
