Default Rear defrost causes radio to cut out

When I turn on the rear defrost, the FM radio stations in the low bands turns to static. Anyone have this issue? If so, is there a diy fix?

Interesting... I have not tested this setting but there is a known fact that the antenna looses reception when placed in an electric shield (cage). The defroster lines when energized will produce the cage effect.

My old understanding was that there are two FM antennas [rear side and rear]. It could be that the station you are set to is directionally aligned to the rear antenna and when that is blanketed the side cant pick much. Try to position your vehicle 90 degrees and see if you loose that FM station or try randomly selecting another station. [Test best done in open environment]

Wow, that is interesting. I'll give it a shot and see if that affects the issue. Thanks!

The car's orientation does not have an effect, but I began to notice band creep. It sometimes will change station numbers on it's own. Maybe it's the head unit.

I am stumped.

There can be an issue with the antenna connectors. Was any work done in the trunk area?

If you are experiencing this with one station it could be that you are at the fringe of reception. FM is almost like ON-or-OFF. That is the beauty of FM that it does not suffer from linear degradation like in AM.

The choice is yours to live with the problem or try to fix it. Personally I would live with it, till some other issue pops up with the headhunt or the antenna connectors.
