Extended Warranty (merged threads)

From reading this thread, and other articles on the internet, we declined everything.
Also, we have a 2008 Scion XB with an extended warranty and never used it.
If something happens to the tires, we have AAA and Sams Club.

I bought third party warranty from AA Auto Warranty and would recommend them. This is the 2nd time I am buying warranty from them. I prefer being covered by warranty because of the expensive electronics in our cars which will definitely be expensive to fix if any thing breaks.
60 Months / 100,000
Plan: National Administrative Service Co. Ultimate
Expires: 10/23/2024 or 101,000
Deductible: $100.00
Cost: $2100 (I had to haggle a bit)
I found it a better value than the one offered by my local Lexus dealer which was 2500 for 3 years (also third party). If you do not want third party warranty then call up other Lexus dealers and negotiate.

Hello, first post. New to Lexus with 2020 RX 450h
Hi everyone, I'm finally part of the Lexus family! Just got the 2020 RX 450h F Sport in ultra white with black interior. Mark levinson, navigation, pano roof, hud, and tons more. Pretty much all the technology!
Wish I had pictures to share, but I dropped it off to my detailer the day after I bought it to add PPF. Hopefully I'll be able to share pics soon.
I did have a question about Lexus's extended warranty which I passed up at the dealer hoping to do more research to get a better deal.
Is the pricing different if I bought it within 30 days vs just before the 4 year included warranty expires?
The best pricing of 2 dealerships around me are below. I know with my Toyota I was able to purchase its warranty from an out of state dealership at 50% listed the price.
I was wondering if I can find that sort of deal with Lexus?
6 year 70 k 1795.00
6 year 100 k 2395.00
6 year 125000 k 2995.00
7 year 100 k 2895.00
7 year 125000 k 3595.00
8 year 100 k 3195.00
8 year 125000 k 4295.00
Thanks!

x52: While anything can break at any time, Toyota/Lexus are one of the most reliable vehicles made. Therefore, in my humble opinion, extended warranties are not worth it. Keep in mind, extended warranties almost always start when you first buy them. In other words, a 6 year warranty starts when you buy your car, so you subtract the 4 year Lexus warranty, leaving you paying whatever for a two year warranty. etc.

Pricing on extended warranties is a wildcard. If you really want one, you can probably haggle them to a fraction of the quoted cost. Extended warranties typically return a gross margin of 90% or better. It's a personal choice - I NEVER buy them and in the case of Lexus, the produce is typically pretty reliable. Yeah - lots of electronics and things can go wrong at anytime. NEW = Never Ever Worked. Good luck with your new RX. The ultra white is stunning.
I'd rather not drop $3000, but I can stomach half of that if I knew how to haggle warranty, except the remaining dealerships aren't responding to give me numbers to work with. Are sales guys on this forum known to solicit this... because I'll purchase a warranty deal from them

Good point. I'm thinking if anything major goes wrong it'll happen within the included warranty.
I have a Honda Accord, used its extended warranty for a serpentine belt issue, paid for itself and basically broke even.
Had a Camry, never used its extended warranty. Included warranty covered a frame adjustment in the first year.

The prices on these are negotiable. Toby Rivers at Lexus of Shreveport (tobytoyota@aol.com) typically offers Lexus Platinum warranties at $500 less than most other dealers.

I can't find it, but there was a post around the 2013 timeframe that spoke of a Lexus dealer somewhere in the mid-west who would sell 100,000 mile extended warranties to punters (that's us) in the $600 range. Not sure what the MSRP for such a warranty is today but in those days dealers would try to sell them in the $2,500+ range.

Hello, I'm a super noob here! Wifey is checking out on purchasing a used Lexus 2016 RX 350 F Sport with 45k miles and literally less than 2 months before the original factory warranty of 48 months/50k miles expires. Will it be worth it to pursue an extended warranty? We are long time car holders - wifey's current car is a 2007 Acura MDX with 168k miles on the odometer! Bought used with 86k when we got it! This would be our 1st venture into a Lexus, I believe the reliability on the 2016 RX 350 F Sport is very good but being this may be our most expensive car purchase to date, is the extended warranty for up to 6-8 years worth the investment?
Any advice before we possibly purchase in the next few days would be appreciated! Thanks!

Extended Warranties=Baloney
Almost bought one and changed my mind. Why? Lexus and your local dealer do not administer any claims. They are administered by CNA Financial. They apply capricious parts and labor rates, insist on used and/or non EOM parts. Their loss ratio historically runs about 55%--which means they do not pay out.
You are buying one of the most reliable cars ever made. A CPO warranty from the dealer, backed by Lexus, is fine. An extended warranty administered by a third party will likely never be needed and will prove to be an excruciating exercise in frustration if you are in the tiny minority that has the bad luck to need it.

Oh yeah - I meant one of the extended warranties from Lexus themselves, a Lexus Extra Care Gold or Platinum warranty plan. I almost just rather put $100 a month into a side savings account for the next 60 months of car payments just in case, this way in case I need the money in an emergency it's there for that. Plus it looks like the RX 350 F Sport is a very reliable car over the long haul as well.
Those Lexus extended warranties you mention are probably very expensive. I would forgo any extended warranty. Not worth it, IMO.
