Default Using navigation while driving

I'm a new lexus buyer and I found out that while I was driving the navigation is pretty much grayed out even if I had a passenger to man it.

Is this something I can ask the dealer to be 'customized'?

It is a safety feature. Even if the dealer knew a work around they would not help as it would leave them liable.

There are "backdoors" and work arounds to do what you are asking but would be provided by a third party. I remember on my LX470 there was a way to push a combination of screen buttons to override but do not think this is possible anymore or it is unknown if it is.

This is where voice commands come in. Press the voice command button and say "Address", then say the whole address. There are several things grayed out while the car is moving, most things can be done through voice commands.

Thanks for the info. Its annoying how it has to be this way for users to actually use it while driving. I guess they're pushing you to use the enform destinations..

No. Lexus continues to live in the past. It will take them another 12 years before they implement Apple's CarPlay. No one will use the voice commands, because they have to be highly specific. If it were Siri..."take my *** home..."

"Sure thing!"

Voice commands have gotten a lot better over the years. It's better than staring at the screen while you're driving and not paying attention to the road.

How come it's a liability issue for Lexus but it's not an issue for Acura and BMW?

The voice commands are not very forgiving compared to Siri/Cortana for example, so there is no excuse for Lexus not to offer Apple CarPlay and/or Android Drive as an alternative.
