4RX Mileage Thread

Hi ravenuer , thank's for the quick reply to my message. I didn't mention, that when I picked up the car, the tires were at 40 PSi. The door calls for 33 PSI so I've lowered them to 34-35 PSI and when cold the dash gauge shows them to be around 33 PSI. Also, I didn't mention that I always reset Trip A every time I fill the tank and the mileage I'm referring to is from my manual calculation based on the miles traveled in Trip A / Gallons pumped. I also didn't mention that after 2 months I have < 600 miles on the vehicle. The dealership also said it should be better over time. So your thoughts add some comfort to my angst. Thanks again..
Bottom line— get the hybrid. You won’t be sorry.

Sorry— I’m going to be the fly in the ointment. Had a 2013 RX. Best I ever did in summer was 16 mpg. Winter— dropped down to 11-12 mpg. Took to dealer countless times. Nothing wrong. Two friends had RX’s. Their mpg was not as bad but close. We all got rid of them. I got the 2015 RX450H. Great car and good mpg. Averaged around 20 mpg. Not spectacular but better than the 13. I traded that for a 2018 GMC Terrain Denali. Big mistake. Ride was horrid, Road noise and back to bad mpg. I was getting Average—12-13 mpg. It was just a horrid car. Traded for a 2019 RX450H. Best car I’ve ever owned. Just perfect in all respects. Average mpg— summer 29.6. Winter— 25.4. Quiet, great ride and stylish.
Bottom line— get the hybrid. You won’t be sorry.

2018 F-Sport, 26,000 miles, worn out Bridgestone tires. I have seen as good as 28 mpg. on a long trip on the freeway, 70 mph cruise control, premium gas, not much wind, fairly level territory in the midwest USA. I don't think I've seen worse than 20 mpg. for my normal suburban short trips. You can run it lower than that by leaving it idling for long periods

You say you're a gentle driver, but that's YOUR opinion, someone might go with you and think you're a much harder driver and obviously the opposite could also be true. Please don't take this as criticism, just my thoughts, I don't know you at all and you could well be a very gentle driver and there's an issue with the car.
Since it's still new it may improve, 2600 miles is nothing. Over the four years I've had my 2016 F-Sport I get around 12.5 litres per 100 in town and 8 on highways (22 mpg & 35 mpg)

There are a lot of different driving styles out there, people's perceptions of what's a gentle or hard driver can be quite different.

The RX is a fat car with an only adequate power so works harder compared to the lighter RCF with ample power.

My 2020 has about 4000 miles and I have been getting about 25 mpg Highway and about 18 mpg on all the short run around trips in suburbia. Most of my driving since Covid has been short in town trips so my average is in the low 20s. When I go back to commuting to work in the fall it is almost all highway, so looking forward to pretty good numbers for what it is.

I drove 333 miles today in my 2020 RX350 (AWD, 20" wheels), longest drive of the 3,000 miles on the vehicle. I was very pleasantly surprised to get 28.3 mpg for the trip, as I had not seen better than 24 mpg in prior, more hilly driving, and usually less. Glad to know my rig can do better with the right conditions.
Trip facts, for those interested: mostly highway, with some suburban driving midway. Highway speed limits ranged from 55-70mph (I'm a 3-5mph-over driver.) No passengers and no cargo; just my skinny runner's frame onboard. AC in use the entire trip. I run 87 octane top tier fuel. I drove it all in Normal mode; no ECO and no Sport.

We got back from a trip to the WV mountains yesterday, and the mileage for it was back in the upper 23s. That trip included almost 200 miles of interstate driving at 73-75mph, plus is much hillier. The 28+ mpg trip was through western WV and south-central Ohio; not flat, but a lot flatter than eastern WV. Although it's all highway, there's almost no interstate on that trip, so the average speed limit - and my average driving speed - is lower.
My conclusion from all this is the RX can crank out fairly high mileage under nearly optimal conditions. Have it drag its ~4,500 pounds uphill, though, and mileage declines rapidly.

It's the same as I got (#259 above) on a 300+ mile trip here in the midwest, where I did the math on the gas tank refill. The calculated MPG figure was within 1/10 mile of the MPG figure that the car showed I had done. I also put it in Sport+ mode every time I get in the car -- that appears to make no difference at all on the mileage.
