Lexus sells the hitch for the RX, they are just back ordered. I can wait till the middle of January.

Would the hitch be something fairly easy to DIY install? I need one only for my bike rack and will not be towing, so I thought it would be nice to save a few $$.

Awesome and take lots of pics. If you got time, ask them what had to be removed/installed to get the hitch in. How much for parts/labor?

The service guy told me it would take two hours. Said the actual hardware is quick and easy to install but the wiring harness install is a little more time consuming. He could not give me hard details as mine is the first one they will install He said I could be out in an hour but telling me two hours just in case.

I will post detail images from the back and under the vehicle after it is complete.

Are you in socal by any chance? If so what dealership?

2 questions for everyone - please help

1. What is the price just for the factory hitch?

2. Anyone is southern california getting this installed soon? If so please let me know the dealership. I want someone who has done the install to do mine, esp since F sport you have to remove a few things to complete the install. I prefer not to be the 1st.

Looking forward to the pics!

No, for sure not Ca.

Did not ask the price but from what I hear it is in the $500+ range. The cost might be high but I got a $17K jetski that is wanting to get wet and the bike rack depends on it too!

I just called Lexus of Glendale, CA. I dislike this dealership so far, when I went to go check out a GX the guy walked me so far to check it out then realized he didnt have a key and then subsequently has no idea the trunk was a swing gate.

Anyways Tony from the parts dept who said he has no idea what the hitch kit comes with said:

$550 for the hitch part# PT22848160
$375 for the labor (2 hours)

Anyone wanting a hitch here are some options:
1) $925 for a factory hitch
2) Wait 5-6 months for uhaul and pay $270 installed
3) $250-$300 for a custom hitch that is welded on to frame (much more secure) from local shop. I will do most likely go this route. Found this guy on yelp:

if you need a recommendation for a custom hitch, my friend works at a large truck/suv parts wholesaler in SoCal. I can probably get referrals thru him if you tell me what city you're located in

Just a few quick images off the iPhone. Sorry about the quality.

For those who worry the hitch will ruin the look of the vehicle, it does not. The new grey trim under the bumper comes with the hitch kit! No cutting required. Cost was in the $800 range installed.
