so factory rear windows are darker than legal limits? if that's the case id definitely get something lighter than that.
Every state has their own statutes. Most only apply to the front windows and windscreen, but some states restrict aftermarket tinting on all windows. It's goofy, but "SUVs" frequently have different restrictions than "regular passenger vehicles." WV, for example, allows 35% VLT for the front side windows and nothing on the windscreen on SUVs. Rear side and back windows can have any tint. "Passenger vehicles" are restricted to 35% VLT on all side windows and the back window.
35% is not universal. Ohio, as I recall, is much more restrictive, allowing only 50% VLT on the front side windows (I don't remember if they make the SUV/passenger vehicle distinction.)
just set up an appointment to tint the 2 front windows of our new RX350. i want to match the factory tint of the rear windows, what shade should i go with? 35%? 40% or even lighter?
I did 25 or 30% (I'd have to go back and look) and thought the match was nearly spot on. My installer had a device that measured the factory tint, so we were able to pick something close. I want to say we settled on 30, because I know it was barely over the legal limit.
I’m taking my ‘21 RX450H F Sport in next week for a 15% tint (3M) on front side windows, and because I have a signed prescription from my skin Doc, I can get away with the darker tint in CA. I’ll post a pic after the tint work.

Looks great, but can't go any darker than 32% here in NC.
And you have to pass an tint test to pass an inspection to get your tags. You don't get to just risk it and drive safely. No medical exemption in that state either.
IMO I would do something like Air Blue 80 all around, with 35% on the front sides. I'd bet they wouldn't test or notice the air blue 80 on the front windshield.

Not a problem. Now, if you could get other people to quit copying and pasting a bunch of unneeded photo's when they have a question, you could possibly be awarded an internet medal.
Took some pictures after installing the OEM mudflaps. They came out a lot different while under synthetic lights, tint looks much darker. This is with the pannoroof cover open.
Windshield: 55%
Front sides: 20%
Rear sides: 55% over stock
Hatch: 55% over stock
Roof: 30% over stock.
