What I cant understand is I have watched and read so many car reviews on the RX. None of the reviews mention anything
about drone or vibration. I wonder if Lexus hand picks the ones that are used for reviews.
I was actually just watching one on youtube and they were reviewing the car as they were driving. There was a period
of time that you cound see the Tach as they were driving. it never went under 2K rpm's Mine always settels out at 12 to 1500 rpm's which is where the drone and vibration occurr. I wonder if some are tuned differently. Very puzzling to say the least.
Most of everything we are exposed to is influenced by marketing $$. And I mean everything including some whose job is to boost a product/company/stock online etc.

I do not think it is a conspiracy, a lot of people just do not care about different sounds, they think it is normal. Then there are people like me there could be a water bottle squeak or sunglasses banging inside glove compartment or wind noise or drone. It is not a tolerance to noise level, more like a different alert level, some people have it and most don't.

Very true. I may a difficulty hearing ( hearing aids) but I can hear any sound in my vehicle that is out of the normal -- coins that may rattle in the arm rest tray for example. My wife , who can hear a mouse wearing tennis shoes run across the floor at 50 feet, on the other hand doesn't pay attention to it and could care less.

That is so true. If they have multiple testers (like car and driver often will), one would expect these things would be caught by at least one of them. My personal experience is that I don't notice everything about the car for at least a week, and making a purchase decision with one or two test drives has been a mistake for me.
Here is a photo of 2107 RX450h. It has a damper hallway between the center pipe into the engine and the muffler. Apparently, this is the same arrangement as the 2016 RX 450h.

Yes, this stock factory, no modifications. I still hear the drone and feel a slight vibration. But on a 450h, most of the time I am on battery when it is pronounced, so it is not as noticeable as a gas only model.

I had 450h with a damper in the middle of the exhaust too but it still drone and vibrated. So I tired to add a second damper but still vibrate. I am glade mine was not the only one. I was going to buy another one but not anymore.
The 450h cvt is tune for max mpg so the engine stay at 1100-1300rpm, and that is where the drone/vibration happen. Doesn't matter if your doing 30mph or 60mph, the engine will end up in the 1200rpm.
Every time the car switch from electric to gas engine, I can feel and hear this drone/vibrating every time. And it does this a lot. If I am barely pushing the gas pedal, the gas engine would come on. I can't go pass 35mph without gas. It was so annoying that I sold my 450 in 30days of ownership.
Just called Toyota to see if my Exhaust Dampers came in. Now they tell me there back ordered.
Maybe dealers are installing them. Hard to believe there is a great demand for them.
I had it on D and had the foot on the brake and gas at around 1,500 RPM.
When I am in D and I hold the brake and press the gas, I get a warning message that my foot is on the brake. I can't rev while my foot is on the brake.

That's strange. I did that two days ago on my 2017 RX and 2016 ES just to compare and RX indeed has that noise and vibration that is bugging the hell out of me.
