Default Heads up on Tire Wear on the F Sport 20"

So I was browsing a local newspaper, and lo and behold, theirs an add for the RX F sport.
Sick image used, however on the bottom in fine print Lexus (not a dealership who ran the add)

it states "Optional 20" Tires are subject to increase wear, and may only last upto 20,000 mile"

So is that a fact based on the F sport tires are getting shipped or just a cautionary disclaimer

My LS had a Simular warning on the back passenger side window. Warned of high tire wear.

I would think it would vary based on the brand of tire it comes with? They are not all the same manufacturer. Mine came with Michelins, whereas some poster's photos show their 20inch wheels with other brands.. The stock tires are also much thicker rubbers, so in comparison I would agree it will have faster wear. And then it all depends on the driving style.

It's also listed on the back page (fine print section #4) of the 2016 RX brochure. Yes, I even read the fine print. Nothing to worry about, same low mileage warning was for the 19" tires at the time on my 2013. I now have 30,000 miles (OEM Michelin Latitudes 19 inch) with 50 and 55% tire tread left at the time of our trade in approval amount a few days ago. Realize that's pretty good due to our mostly travel type miles, but the less than 15000 mile warning for 18 inch and less than 20,000 mile warning for the 20 inch would only apply to a very few regardless of which brand they received.

I remember seeing the same ad a few weeks ago and thought that it applied to the 20" wheels on the F Sport rather than the 20" wheels that come with the Luxury Package on the non-F Sports. I guess I was thinking that perhaps the F-Sports 20" tires are stickier and therefore more prone to wear. Can anyone clarify this?

Just to clarify,

Are the tire sizes the same on FRONT AND REAR on F sport models?

Me likely the Michelin Super Sports.

Summer tires shipped on most sport model cars regardless of car manufacturer will only last 20k-25k. All seasons last typically 40k-60k depending on tire manufacturer.

Same size for the front and back. Wouldn't really make sense to stagger the wheels for a car that is front-biased AWD.

Yes. But my question is whether the 20" tires shipped on the F Sport automatically come as performance (summer) tires, whereas the the 20" tires that come on the non-F Sport as a result of ordering the Luxury package are the longer wearing all-season tires? It should be this way, but I wanted to hear from actual owners as to what tires they got.

According to Lexus.com, F-sport comes equipped with all-season tires. No mention of summer tires option anywhere.

Just for reference, from RX brochure back page:

Quote - 18" or 20" performance tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 15,000 miles (18") or 20,000 miles (20"), depending upon driving conditions. Unquote

As things being equal, it makes since to me that the 20" tires will wear longer than the 18" tires because there is more surface area in contact with the road per mile and thus spreading the wear over a larger area. Just my 2 cents.

If this is from the RX brochure then it is strongly implying (as a warning) that some RX's come with performance tires rather than conventional (I assume they mean all-season) tires. Perhaps Lexus' intent was to ship performance tires to the warmer states (for only F-Sports?) and all-seasons to those of us who get snow.

The tires on my RX350 are 20" Bridgestone Ecopia DP422 plus which are all season "fuel efficient" and carry a 70,000mile warranty.

what you said is not true. it doesnt matter if its 18" or 20". they are all 235mm in width. such as 235/60-r18 and 235/55-r20. 235mm is what contacts the road.

Okay, well, back in the real world

The tires that come on the rx450h f-sport are Michelin Premiere LTX 255/35R20. The manufacturer part number is 13732. The manufacturer warranty, like every other Premiere LTX, is 100,000km

http://www.michelin.ca/tire-selector...ils#warranties

Scroll up to the top, and you will see that Michelin rates the tire an 8/10 for wear life, 9/10 for fuel efficiency and braking, and 10/10 for comfort. A horrible 3/10 for off-road Scroll down, and you can see the specs on the 255/35R20.

Additionally: there is no way a high volume production car would bundled with a tire that would wear out in just ONE YEAR of normal use. The blowback would be horrible.
