rattle underneath
hello all,
just got a '16 rx350. great car, but one issue: we've noticed a rattling sound coming from underneath the car either at the rear or the driver's side (depends on where you're sitting). sounds like there's some sort of plastic trim piece loose. i took a look underneath and there is a big plastic skid plate-looking piece underthere, but it seems to have all it's clips and buttons attached--doesn't seem loose. any suggestions? dealership service is closed today, so i figured i'd ask here before taking it in.

Shortly after purchasing my 16 RX, I started hearing a rattle which I, and later the service adviser who rode tested the car with me in it, could have sworn came from underneath the car. We were all surprised when the tech found it was the roof rack.

that is surprising! was it the crossbar position?

our rattle was, in fact, from the roof rack. whoever installed the rack forgot one bolt which caused the crossbar to fit loosely in the foot, thus producing the rattling noise we had been hearing.
bad news: the missing bolt cannot be ordered separately. we'll need to replace the entire rack system (not cheap).
good news: the dealership did the right thing and is shipping a new rack to our house.
