Default 2016 Grill color

I traded in a 2006 400h for a 2016 silver RX350. I bought the 2016 in spite of my reservations on the radical, exterior styling, especially the shark nosed grill. I don't think Toyota's new, aggressive nose styling is as popular as they'd hoped.
My plan is to paint the upper 70% of the grill the same as the body color. Have already ordered the paint. My thoughts are that this will soften the nose.
Have others done this? Thoughts?

Wouldnt say its not as popular as they'd hoped - im pretty sure Lexus is selling a lot more cars right now than ever.

Personally I think painting only 70% of the grill will look odd. Either paint it all or don't.

Lexus is attracting new customers to their RX line of cars myself included. Before this 2016 redesign I would never have even considered the previous generation RX. This new version makes me want to buy one asap. So yes they are selling. I see many 4RXs on the road now so people are indeed buying them.

I would not paint the grill. If i were you instead of using permanent paint to paint your grill why not use something like plasti dip. With plasti dip you can remove it if you dont like it. A new grill would cost you an arm and a leg.

I do not think that Lexus could have hoped the 4RX did better. They are selling quite well.

Why would you buy it if the looks are so bad to you?

just took delivery the other day, coming from 4GS, this RX is night and day compared to the previous gen ( i had one of 2010's); the previous gen is too feminine for my taste.

Interesting idea. Why not paint the entire grill? Also, I checked on insert grills ( mesh) and found that CARiD had them for RX350 without parking assist. I might be interested in the insert but I am not capable of installing an insert. But it sounded interesting to me.

The more aggressive styling was done to attract an additional clientele. Apparently, it has had some success. Why did I buy a 4th Gen if I preferred a gentler style? Ans, because the entire package of traits still came out on top. I'd considered a remaining 2015 ; but the Gen4 was just that much superior, IMO. We keep cars for 10 years +, live in a very rural area, are nearing 70 (want extreme reliability), are easy to work on and have readily available service if I don't choose to do it myself (Toyote based vehicle unlike MDX, etc).
Why only upper portion of grill? There's a natural break there. Some cars do have a dark lower part of grill near the fender.
I'll take before and after pictures.

Interesting.
Mine is black so the grill wouldn't stand out at all except for the chrome strip around it

If you worry about the chrome strip standing out too much on the dark color RX, try 3M car wrap.
I used 3M gloss black metallic from Amazon.

No, you just need a hobby knife, lil chizler hand tool, hair dryer, time and patience (2.5 hrs).

Did you disassemble the grille parts or leave it on during the wrap process?
