Maybe it's me but I am in the NYC metro area and it's a hyper competitive market so I'd have to think that telling a customer that it's basically "sticker or nothing" means that we'd lose the sale.

Maybe that works if you're the only Lexus dealer in the market? CA.. Client Advisor? I'm actually the guy their boss checks with but on the pre owned side.

My experience mirrors post by TexasRxh. I insisted at a minimum it had to be Satin Cashmere, Nobel Brn, Luxury, Head Up, Safety w/ adaptive, and Mark Levinson w/12". They searched and could not find anything close so we "special ordered". They did say Lexus would not allow a special order to be cancelled or changed once accepted. That was Dec 10. My 450h hit dealership on April 22 and delivered next day. This is my 3rd new Lexus at this dealer, so they ordered on a handshake. They were unable to order it built with Autumn Shimmer inserts, but their parts dept. ordered, and they are installed.

I can understand a dealer's hesitation to do a special order. There is no way to accurately predict lead time, and few people are willing to wait 4 months. They are smart enough to know if your special order might be hard to sell if you back out, and if they need to have a deposit.
