Just get the 12.3" otherwise you will regret it, I'm sure.

12.3 looks much nicer than the 8. No question about it. And I have the 8" one. But it all depends on how much you are willing to spend (NOTE: I didn't say "afford") on your car.

I think either is fine, but I had the 8" on my IS and now the 12.3" on my GS and it's a massive change. I love the larger screen.
