Seems like a no brainer to take it in.
If you can get an oil change for $59at a dealership that is a good deal.

I pick up the 5 quart jugs when they go on sale and they are usually $25 - $35. Filter is $5. I rotate tires at same time and check brakes for wear and suspension components. If nothing else I like to clean up the brake components once a year to keep the calipers from getting all crapped up (I live in New England) with salt. So an hour of work for under $50. But for your $59 that is a great price.

I used to do all the maintenance work myself when oil changes were every 3000 miles, and I had to do 4-5 changes/year for one vehicle. As oil change schedules increased with the synthetics, I just felt that the small savings of less than $100.00 for a year for 1-2 changes was not worth the effort. The savings are probably not even close to $100.00. I am taking in my two vehicles next week for an oil change. The Rav has 2000 miles since the last change 9 months ago, and the RX has 9000 miles in 9 months. The cost for both cars will be around $120.00. Not sure what oil and filters cost these days, I bet the savings of do it your self is small.

Oil is about $15 for 5 qt jug of high quality synthetic when there are rebates (pennzoil platinum, mobil1, castrol edge, vaovoline) if purchased from walmart. filter is less than $10.
My dealer charges 109 but local shops would be happy with 15-20 labor if you bring your oil and filter.

for $59, i wouldn't bother DIY if i didn't already have the tools.

I just DIY it. because the time spent driving to the a shop and waiting for my turn and driving home could be better spent in my garage letting the oil drains more thoroughly.

I find this is the easiest car to change the oil. My drive one way to the dealer takes longer than doing it myself! Not counting the couple of hours wait for it.

Dealers and reputable oil changers in my area charge more than $60 for each oil change and are closer $75. Materials cost for the best synthetic oil and filter are under $30. It might not be much for one car, but with multiple cars, this adds up. I normally do them all at the same time to keep track and save time. Then add up the air filter, cabin filter, etc that I replace while the oil is draining when they are up for replacement. Also do some cleaning of the engine and the interior while the oil drains.

man you guys have great deals on your synthetic oil down in the states. I don't think I've ever seen it super cheap at any of our local places. Might be cheaper through amazon but its still not amazingly cheap
Amazon Amazon

seems like the cheapest for a 5 qt, decent brand, 0w20 is 60-70 bucks. Plus you need another qt, so that's 80 dollars before taxes and still no oil filter.

Default Motor Oil RX 350/2017

Had my Oil & Filter changed at the dealer and they added 7 litres, this was done on the previous change as well, in my previous 3 changes they added 6 litres. The manual says 5.4 litre w/filter
When asked the SA said that they now they also drain the oil cooler and that accounts for the additional litre as they follow the dry-fill procedure. I know that a dry fill takes more, but never knew what a dry-fill actually was.
What do you guys think?

They charged you for more oil than it takes.

Check the oil level yourself, properly.

With an oil cooler (tow package), the spec is 5.8 quarts which is 5.5 liters. Section 9.1, page 700 in my 2018 owner's manual.

BTW, I have had one experience of the dealer's tech dumping in all 6 quarts of the Amsoil that I provided. Check the level when you get home.

I did check it, but my oil is very very clean as I don't do xtended OCI so it's very hard to see, guess I'll have to wait till it gets a bit darker.
My main concern was foaming, but I don't think that this overfill, if it is overfilled, would be enough to cause it.
I'll contact the dealer on Mon for further discussion.
Thanks to all who have replied!

I've had the same problem with seeing the oil level on the dipstick. I used fine sandpaper on the stick which made the oil easier to see.

- Is the oil level on dip stick okay?
- do they charge you per liter of oil or flat rate for oil change? I believe Most Lexus and Toyota dealers in my area charge flat rate based on vehicle and engine type.
