So, I just picked up my RX Base today at a dealership nearly 200 miles away. I love it so far. No strange noises/vibrations in the drivetrain or gurgling A/C as described elsewhere. However, about the last 30 miles of freeway driving, I started noticing a rattle from SOMEWHERE outside the vehicle. It was not dependent on bumps in the road. I was going between 65-75, and the noise was intermittent. Nearer to home, it didn't occur on surface streets, some of which were pretty bumpy. I'm wondering if it could have been the crossbars on the roof. When I got home, I removed them which I was going to do anyway since I really didn't want them. I'll see how it goes next time I'm on the freeway.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

If you can ensure you can reproduce the sound each time you hit the freeway or that speed, take it to the dealer.

May be a loose plastic covering piece somewhere under the car

I once had a new vehicle (not Lexus) that kept rattling from under the car after we picked it up. Turned out to be a long piece of tape flapping from the wind.

So, I took the crossbars off, washed and waxed it, and took it back out on the freeway. It seemed the noise was mostly gone, so I headed home. When backing in at 2 mph, I heard what sounded like the same thing! I got out, and crawled under and I could hear SOMETHING making a noise. It's really hard to describe. Not tinny like a heat shield rattle. More like a driveshaft, if it had one. I'll head over to the local dealer tomorrow.

Took it to the local dealer this morning. Rode around for 20 minutes with the shop foreman and .... NOTHING. They were great and told me to swing by if/when it happens again. Thanks, Murphy.
