My Lexus as well as Toyota dealerships recommend 18" rims for winter driving for better traction on deep snow. This is common practice. I am in Calgary. AB. As far as I am concerned Michelin Xice 2 is my favored winter tires. Nokian is good snow tires, they don't do well on dry pavement. One thing Lexus TPMS software module sucks.
When I had BMW or Acura, Audi they all self learn new TPMS. Put on winter tire, drive arround half an hour or so, already new TPMS is picked up. BMW being indirect
TPMS needs to be calibrated once tires are changed with proper pressure. iDrive takes cre of that.

"they entered my VIN number to open my tire options. The only one that appeared was the 235/55/20."

Of course it did because that's what's in the system....it's not a smart system, it just shows what your car came with!!!

The only thing crazy is your dealer.

Go somewhere else and stop listening to a dealer that is trying to get you to buy 20 inch wheels. Just call another dealer and get their opinion. I can't handle dealerships like this, I would never touch foot in that place and I would be writing Lexus Canada with a formal complaint.

Just go to a tire shop and tell them what you want, they'll take care of it. For tires or rims, you have many other choices without dealership.

thats exactly what I did. Fsport rollers have become my default winter wheels and I'll save all my time and money to buy a nice set of summers next year!

never rolled through winter with 20" tires before so I'll see how the blizzak dm-v2's treat me!

Blizzak's problem is after tread wears down about half, it loses perforrmance. Only good when new.

I won't disagree with your statement, but I'll also say that performance will decrease with any winter tire when you get to those wear levels. It's usually recommended to replace winters by that point anyways.

I had to get one last opinion from another tire shop.
They said they have done numerous F sports and have not had any issues with any weird vehicle behaviors.

What do you guys think about this package?

18 inch package with Michelin Xi2 Latitude 106T - $1570.00
Includes:
4 x 235/65/18 tires
4 x 18" hubcentric alloy wheels in grey or gunmetal (see photo below)
4 x plastic tire bags
4 x mount, balance and install
Add Toyota TPMS for $230.00.
Programming to be done by dealership which is extra.
Tax is extra.

They are booked solid and next available appointment is some time in December. haha

Check if Michelin has 70.00 rebate still in effect. I went for little less Good Year Ice Grip WRT paying for price of 3 for 4 tires. Setting up the TPMS was done by Good Year
tire shop who had all the necessary tools knowing how to use them. 3rd party TPMS worked just fine. Snowing this morning here in Calgary.

So I put on the winter wheels today and went for a drive. I'm using 18" wheels from my old 3rx winter tire package from a few years ago.
I had to change the tires and am using Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV 235/65r18 110 XL. I know it's early but the ride is much more firm on the road than the 20" Michelins, I did not expect that. The sidewall is substantially taller on the Nokians, but I think the load index and being XL makes for a stiffer sidewall. The steering is much more precise and lighter.

In the Spring I will try running a few more pounds in the Michelin's but I suspect they will be replaced with something more performance oriented.

For those curious, there are no fitment issues, brakes, steering, etc. I am not using TPMS and no warning yet. The Trac control and VSC do not seem to be affected. I can disable both...unlike some Honda vehicles.

Right rear had a screw on the outside edge....off to the dealer. Can't repair it, new tire on the way. Glad they threw in the tire warranty for me when I purchased the RX.

I found very nice 18'' rims from a 2008 Lexus RX. Does any one know whether they will fit on a 2016 RX?

They are probably 7" wide. The 2016's take 8".
It might fit, depending on what the tire manufacturers specify as minimum width, but the tires might bulge out a bit.

In that case 19 in' rim for winter is good choice.
