Thanks....I am a little irritated with Lexus right now. My maintenance light was on. I took it in.....they said I needed my 15000 service. I asked what was involved. Windshield wipers and a tire rotation.

My bill was $278

I told the service person...well played....that will never happen again.

Before that...i asked about the 20k service....oil, oilfilter...ac filter. $309

Honestly ive never done the suggested “K” service ever even though I’ve always taken cars to the dealership for service (different Makes). Every time synthetic oil change and tire rotation please. When they suggest wipers/filters for only a gazillion dollars I decline go to the parts desk, buy them for like $20 roughly wait until I get home and install em in like 5 minutes.

Most of these plateau mileage services are BS things that remind me of me writing a 500 word essay back in the day, minimal content and allot of jibberish
*oil change
*tire rotation
* tighten bolts (yeah right I’m sure they do this)
*lubricate hinges/seats ($5 can from parts desk)
*replace air/ac filters (again parts desk)
*visually inspect ______ (included with oil change)
*check brakes (included with oil change)
* new wiper blades (parts desk very cheap)

As you can see they add a ton of so called services so you can feel better about dropping 5-$800 on a glorified oil change.

my car was in for a warranty claim. i changed out the ac filter myself 4 months ago. got a email that the ac filter is VERY dirty and should be replaced for $170. lol

got home took filter out and still looked like new. i changed it anyways since the oem filter was $20. figured why not.

but yes fools get their service done there.

just do the $89.99 oil change only. everything else do your self.

Back in 2009 my wife had a RAV4 and I took it to the dealer livid becauce the tech didn’t remove the old washer when he replaced the canister filter and doubled up the washers leading to major oil leakage. When I took it to the dealer the service managers response was no big deal it leaked an insignificant amount of oil (I added 2 quarts at home and it was still showing 1/2 way on the stick). I knew my cabin filter was a little dirty becauce I had taken it out to look at it a few weeks ago but he brings out this filter that had like 1/2” an inch of crap on it to show how bad it was and that they had a special going for $149 to replace it. I wonder how many people got conned with this same filter.

That is bad with the dirty filter scheme. The cost is just as bad. The filter is $20 bucks which leaves $129 for labor. It takes me five minutes. At $129 that is $1,548 labor per hour rate.

The AC filter was always the go to easy money for dealers, I actually got a coupon the other day in the mail for another Toyota dealer for $99 for new cabin/engine air filters which isn’t that bad. It’s still easy money but there only charging 1/2 hour labor instead of an hour labor per filter. So seems like the gravy train might be slowing down a little bit.

Not at the dealer for $20, of course you can find filters for $20, the question is are they as good?

I just purchased and installed both filters which were Lexus brands bought on EBay for $22 for the air filter and $24 for the cabin filter. 10 minutes for both. You do not even get your fingers dirty. (maybe slightly)

Mobil 1 synthetic 5 qt and Fram filters are sold at Wal-Mart. The oil is about $25-$30 depending on their labels (high mileage, high performance, regular). The Fram oil filter is $6-$11 depending on the model. The cabin filter is $29.

Spring and fall Mobil runs a $12 rebate on the five quart jug. I usually pay $ 23 minus the rebate so a net of $11. Pic of receipt downloaded on line with rebate form done electronically. Takes three minutes to do and six weeks to get the check.

Not sure if the part numbers are in the manual, but if they are, they'll be Lexus part numbers and you'll generally have to go to a Lexus dealer to buy them. They'll know that before you get there. You're better off going to a local auto parts place who'll have catalogs with that info.
