Gas tank capacity??
I have a RX350 fsport 2, and recently filled up gas for the third time. As I read the specs the gas tank has 72.5L capacity. whereas it only took 55L of gas when it has only 25km range left. isnt that a bit strange? Is anyone experiencing this?

Lexus is very conservative and even when you show you have zero miles left there could still be 3-4 gallons left. In my LX it will show empty with zero miles left and you could only get 20 gallons in the 24 gallon gas tank. This gave the drive an extra 4 gallons in reserve . . . . I am sure they are doing similar for the RX.

Same behaviour on my RX. Last time I filled up when I waited till the warning light was on with 10 km range left but could only fill 63 L in the tank.

It is just Lexus taking care of its owners.

Fill Up on Empty -- How Much?
How much gas do you put in to fill up when near "empty" -- or "Range" just a few miles?
I was a little surprised on my first fill-up to squeeze only 16.4 into the 19.2 gallon tank when the "range" indicated 5 miles left.
My previous car would not display any miles-to-empty when it got down to 30. The one before that was accurate -- when it got to 0 it sputtered to a stop (stupid thing to test 3 times). I understand it is probably not good to go to empty, so makers set the gauge to tell you it is empty when there is some gas left, but 3 gallons?

Sounds about right. Other people here have commented about the 2-3 gallons in the tank and gauge/range reads pretty well empty. Can't say I've ever let any vehicle run down to zero miles...In Canada where the gas prices are insane, I fill up when it gets cheap through the week whether I need it or not.

Lexus Champion
Lexus gives quite a buffer. I've driven it down to 0 miles range and it seems like the car still had about 2 gallons in reserve. They do that because most people will start panicking when they see 0 range and start looking for gas, while the symbol at 30 miles range without a countdown makes people think they can keep going and they blindly push it until they run out.

2017 RX350 with only 20miles remaining and empty light showing, I could only fill 15 gallons. Does that sound about right? The capacity is listed at 19.2 Gallon so is there really 4Gallons for reserve capacity? The mileage still showed only 20 miles remaining but find it odd that the 4 gallons would only go 20 miles? Thanks

I think this is all a vicious cycle - consumers think "Empty doesn't mean empty, I can go a bit longer" so manufacturers build in more cushion which reinforces the customer belief, which requires increasing the cushion, - and pretty soon you're building in 100miles of "reserve" capacity?!?!?!?!? If Lexus really leaves 4gal in a 17.2gal tank (RX450h) with "0 miles to empty" showing, that's going to really reduce the "comfortably usable" range. 2gal should be at absolute least 30 miles, which seems like plenty to me.
Sigh. Distance to empty is a great feature - iff it's reasonably accurate
