Default Long warmup time

Does anyone else on this forum think your 2017 RX350 takes an excessively long time to completely warm up, mines takes about 5 miles of in town driving at speeds of 34 to 40 mph with no stops. I live in Arizona so i'am not talking very cold, at 50 or 60 degrees.

Strange indeed. I have always marveled at how fast my 2017 450h produces heat. Couple of miles at the most.

I'am not talking about getting heat from the heater, I'am talking completely warm on the temp guage.

I agree 100% Takes way longer than any other car I have owned. I thought it was just me who noticed this.
The one thing that drives me nuts is after the car is completely warm and I shut it off within five minutes
of sitting I start it back up and its back on high idle. Put it in gear and it lurches toward. Can't understand why a
car thats up to full temp would go back to high idle. Lexus does some weird stuff.
Another strange anomaly is when the outside temp is below 32 degrees and you come to a stop the idle
will go down and than back up again to high idle when the car comes to a complete stop.
I can actually take my foot of the break and the idle goes down, press the break and it goes back up. The dealer said at very cold temps it wil do this. To me its just putting more strain on the breaks and transmission. Very weird.
Never have I had another car react this way, kinda scared me the first time it happened.

I live in FL and literally, it takes me about two minutes driving for the car to come up to temperature. I know our climate here helps, but 5 miles in town is a bit.

Being in Florida, not suprised at all. Living in NY I found a dramatic difference in warm up time
from 50 degrees to 30 degrees. Heat still comes out normally its the temperature gague and how
long the engine will stay at high idle. Im just comparing this to all the other vehicles I have owned. In a warmer
climate I cant see there being any issue.

I've noticed the same. I have a wireless OBDII dongle, I'll check it out one day. As another poster said, it doesn't seem to impact heat production. I would bet the gauge isn't very accurate.

Just checked mine this morning. After 5min, 10min, or 30minutes, the idle only goes up to no more than 750rpm, certainly not fast idle, after a shutdown. This is in Arizona at 75 degrees. I'am hoping it is the guage that is lazy on the reading, not a partially open thermostat that makes the guage read low for so long.

Mr Hubbs I hope you check yours out with your wireless ob2 reader to see if we somehow have lazy guages not lazy thermostats. Thank You.

I had an 07 is350 and 05 RX350, the 05 RX350 warmed up very quickly compared to the IS350. My 17 RX350 warms up faster than both of them and I was very happy with that aspect.

Shocked that someone said they are having an issue. I loved that I can get in the car and the heat is working by the 2nd stop sign!! It used to be a few miles down the road until the heat worked on my 2 previous Lexus's and to me that is when the car is warmed up, middle showing on car temp gauge.

You are not really reading the posts. We are not saying we can't get heat from the heater, were saying the temp guage is slow to react.

I added that to my post, it shows in the middle (of hot/cold) which is the temp gauge. I just added the reference to heat as that is the best way for me to tell when it's warmed up.

My car shows the temp gauge in the middle (warmed up) quicker than any car I have ever owned and love it. If you don't have this same experience than something may be wrong with your car.

Would not suprise me if they are using two different thermostats. Could be the difference between a 160 and 180 degree
thermstat. This is my first Lexus and it definitely does some strange things. I drive the same route to work for the last 17 years
so I can definitely say it takes longer than any other car I have owned. Ssems like we're not all experiencing the same results.

Yesterday I looked at the coolant temps after a 5 hour cool down (ambient temp 72). Upon starting the vehicle, the coolant temperature was at 94F and the gauge was below C. After about 7 min of driving the gauge was at the middle, and the coolant temp was 170F. The gauge stayed in the middle as the coolant temp rose to 194F and the thermostat opened and dropped the temp to the low to mid 180s.

You might be happy to know that the stock intake functions well as a cold air intake. The intake temps were no more than 4F above ambient.
