Default Gas pedal position?

We are finding that we need to get used to the floor mounted gas pedal on RX Fsport, especially in stop/go traffic.
Our 2010 RX had the pedal up in the air.
Our 2016 NX FSport has pedal in the air.
Anyone know a back story why RX gas pedal is so different from previous RX and current NX?

Sorry I am not using technical terms, but curious if anyone else noticed.

My guess would be to prevent the possibility of a mat getting caught underneath the pedal. It's better than having it shaved like they did on my '10. The surface was small to begin with. The design is slightly awkward but much better.

Not sure the reason, but I like floor mounted gas pedals more. It might just be for looks but I find it easier to modulate.

i did think it was because of the mat issue, but weird 2016 NX designed with pedal in the air.
Just a matter getting used to in two different cars. thanks

I asked the Lexus dealer why the changed and they said that it WAS to stop the mat issue.

I like the floor mounted. On long stretches of road and cruise control set, I can rest my foot on the connection without pushing the pedal. A sort of foot rest.

Wow, I didn't even notice our gas pedals were like that until I saw this post and looked

It makes sense for the floormat's after all the recall/issues they have had previously to just do it that way.
