thanks for responding. The driver info said “Parking Brake Malfunction, see your dealer”
no idea what code, I don’t have a chassis function scanner or software for Lexus”
I went out on a limb and tried cycling the parking brake and the message is gone.
I was afraid they were going to lock up with it backed into my garage.

Default Brake Pad/Rotor replacement suggestions?

I hate to go buy brake pads and rotors from Lexus because of their price. Anyone have a suggestion for parts for an 2017 RX350? Ive got 60,000 miles on the original pads and Im expected to replace them soon.

Assuming you have an RX 350 base model I would suggest for pads: Akebono ACT1324A (front) and ACT1879 (rear). I haven't made up my mind on rotors yet but someone here will know.

I paid $160 for two front rotors and $70 for front pads at lexus dealership. Just parts without labor
Do you really want to put cheap chinese aftermarket junk on lexus?

Akebono pads are well-regarded and are an OEM supplier for many brands, including Toyota (according to various internet sources. ADVICS is also a Toyota/Lexus supplier.) I just put them on a 2017 Honda Pilot. They were identical to the OEM pads I removed, minus 110K miles of wear.

I've heard good feedback about this brand
It costs the same as I paid for OEM pads, except you getting new set of springs which you won't have in OEM set

I have used Akebono pads previously on my Acura and they are great.

On my 2020 RX I just did my rear brakes (rotors and pads) and probably doing front very soon (same) and purchased OEM from online Lexus dealership. The cost is not bad for OEM and I figure it is once every 5 years or so for me, so not a big deal.

When I was driving about 30k per year I used Akebono pads and used Centric Rotors from Rock Auto. These were for my Acura TL (305,000 miles when I sold it) and they were a good and relatively inexpensive alternative.

I used to be an Akebono fan until they had switched their brake material to copper free. I must say the brake pedal feels softer. And no, it's not because of there is air in the system.

As for rotors - aftermarket or OE have very similar thickness out of the box. So, it is for you to decide what is right for you.

What's the thought on replacing pads without replacing rotors? My 2020 RX with 59K miles brakes fine with virtually no pulsation. My Lexus dealer, though, noted last week during a vehicle inspection (it's a WV thing) that my rear pads are at 4mm and will need to be replaced soon. I'm inclined to just replace the pads leave the rotors alone.

I have replaced pads only several times. As long as your rotors are not damaged or below min thickness you should be fine. The rotors probably have a thickness spec on the outside edge of the rotor, so you can check that spec and measure.
The other option is have someone resurface your rotors, but you need to find someone who does it well and is worth the cost. I have never had that done b/c I don't trust the places that do it.

When I just did my rear brakes I considered just doing the pads, but again, now that I am retired my mileage is much less, so a brake job is probably going to be every 4 or 5 years, and the price per year is so small that I just put on OEM rotors for peace of mind....I know that they work and will last me at least 70k.

Just curious....how are your front pads doing?

I just replaced my rear pads at 68k....pretty worn with only 2 mm left. I assumed that the fronts would be well worn so I planned on doing those yesterday. When I got in and measured they all still had about 7 - 8 mm of pad left.
Good news but I was somewhat surprised since I always remember my fronts wearing out sooner than the rears on other vehicles.

With earlier vehicles, front pads almost always wore out first since the natural momentum of the vehicle is shifted forward during the stopping process. This made the front pads work harder. But now with programmable ABS modules, it is up to the engineers to decide how much braking pressure is applied to the front vs. rear. More pressure on the rear pads results in a more stable vehicle during braking. Anyone who has ever driven a motorcycle has experienced this. I have noticed in the past 15 years or so that the rear pads are wearing out sooner.
