Shaking when braking at high speeds
#31
Rotors may be different thicknesses for different cars, but speaking very broadly most rotors can wear down about 2mm before needing to be replaced (32->30mm, 28->26mm, etc.). Your pads will do that over time, but when they machine them they grind off some portion of that so while it solves the shaking problem it did reduce the life of your rotor. Just don't be surprised if at that 50-60k mark you need both pads and rotors replaced. But if the shaking happens again under warranty, they shouldn't be able to machine them again. You need a minimum amount of metal left to machine and once they've done it once, it's extremely unlikely they can do it twice. So you may not have to insist on replacement, they should just do it.

Rotors may also warp if lug nuts are improperly tightened during tire rotations.

Bought as CPO and asked for the repair sheet to document what the dealer did after the original owner traded the car. Mileage is 15,500 but dealer machined all 4 rotors and replaced all pads. No prior mention in original owner's repair history, so presume that the rotor surface check was part of the CPO inspection.

Front end vibration on steep down hills when brakein
I get a vibration when goin down hill like rotors are shot. On flat land I can do a 60 to zero hard stop with no vibration. 2018 350 RX with 20000 miles. Any one ever had this ? Brake issues not covered under warranty? I do know when going down hill the weight shifts to front of the car.

You probably need pads and rotors or at least rotors resurfaced. Not uncommon at 20K miles in hilly areas.

This seems like a common issue with this vehicle. Mine started doing it at 25000 KM, had the rotors resurfaced and it went away for a while. It returned at 40000 KM, and this time, the dealer told me it was "heat spots" and recommended I replace the brake pads & rotors at my own cost.

I have a 2016 RX 350 with 18K miles on it. I noticed that when I brake (normally, not hard at all) at high speeds (over 80 mph) on the highway, I feel very noticeable shaking in the pedal. It's definitely not the steering wheel so it doesn't look like a wheel balancing issue and it only happens at speeds over 80 mph and it gets worse if I drive for a while. It almost feels like the brake pads are hitting an uneven surface (warped rotors?). I do feel it a little bit starting at 65 mph but it gets worse approaching 80 mph and over. I don't brake hard and perform all the scheduled maintenance (tire rotation, oil change, etc.) What could be the reason for this shaking?
Same here, 2017 rx350. About 20k miles. Vibration when break at over 70mph. Will change or machine rotors and update later. I assume I only need to chance the front rotor, correct?

I think this Sounds like warped rotors.
rotors are like a frying pan. Heat it up and then cool it quickly and it could warp. Cooling could be due to rain, car wash etc. Imo.

Generally, if you feel the vibration in the steering wheel, it's the front brakes. If you feel it in your seat, it's probably the rears.
