Smile Which RX Would You Buy

Okay kids......I own a 01 RX300 with over 300,000 miles and think it is time to upgrade...so the question is which one would you buy? I really like either the 16 RX350 or 450H however finding one with the options I want is near impossible. The 17's are close to $60,000 so I am hoping to find a Certified used one. However..... would anyone recommend one earlier than the 16's? And if so why?

I really haven't looked at anything prior to the 16 models.....thanks for the advice!

I say go for a Certified Pre-Owned 2016 RX 350 or 450h. I think the safety tech is enough to make it better than a '15. However, it really depends on how much you want to spend. My local dealerships in Dayton and Cincinatti Ohio have Certified '15 RX 350s as low as $31k and Certified '16 RX 350s for about $48k. So if cost is a big issue, go with the '15. Also, the '15 is 5 inches shorter in length than the '16. So, if you want something "more manageable, get the '15". Otherwise, I think the '16 is more distinctive in design and better-equipped.

But forget the '15s and '16s, I want to know more about your 2001 RX 300. 300,000 miles is amazing!!! Did anything need replacing? Or did you just do regular maintenance? Any chance you could post a photo or two of your '01 RX?

Since you keep your cars for so long, I would get the one you want and not settle for something that doesn't have things you want. Depending on how you are paying for it, you might find the payments easier with the good financing at the dealer on a 2017. 2015 and a 2016 are not the same vehicles.

First year CPOs are a terrible waste of money unless you make out with a hefty discount, and I MEAN A LOT OF $$$$s off.

My advice is if you want to get something below 38k, try going CPO 15s and earlier. HOWEVER if your budget is anything higher then pick up a 17 or leftover 16 NEW. Any 16 on the lot you can get your bet on getting 25%+ off easy. If 17, try the prices paid, you can neg quite a hefty discount. The only thing limiting you is your options spec lol.

It all depends on your budget. The RX is a high volume vehicle, so dealers want to deal, so take it for whats it worth

Don't make the mistake I did. Bought an L-Certified 2014 when I really wanted the 4th generation. Fast forward 4 months, I traded it in at a loss to get the 2017 F-sport. I don't care, I got my Rioja red seats They are completely different animals -- even the 2016+ non-F sports.

That said, it was a perfectly reliable and comfortable car. It's all about what you're willing to spend and what you really want.

I agree with this..

OP - If it's within your budget get the 16 or new 17... Since I assume you will also be keeping this one for a very long time, IMO you may as well get the most current model.. Good Luck.

Since the safety package was not standard on 2016 model, it might not be easy to find an used 2016 model with safety package. OTOH, the dealers are getting used or demo 2017 model now.

Dealers are offering very good discount with the 2017 now since the 2018 is coming out. Check out the best prices thread and do your math and make it work.
To me, a certified '15 with <25K miles is $33-35K. A new 2017 non f-sport is around 52-54K MSRP. after a 12-14% discount(which I comfortable say you can get), the difference is ~$12K.

With NickL's $12k different between a 15 and a new 17, I will go for 17 since I will be driving this car for the next 300k
At 25k used 15, few things are due to change, tires, breaks, oil filters etc

RX450H F-Sport with Triple Beams: better gas mileage, better handling, better resale value, and easier brake-disc pad maintenance.
