I'm having a tough decision if I should just purchase a F-Sport 2017 now or wait for the new 2018 just months away. These points say wait for 2018 but maybe you can chime in if I'm missing something you can think of? Would you guys lean towards 17s or 18s? I want to have a RX by December at latest with another baby on the way.
Some pros I see for each:
2017:
Some pros I see for each:
2017:
- Use now (enjoy it right away)
- Great discounts (looking at 6-7k off 59-60k MSRP)
- Lower base cost (usually goes up a little every year)
- Newer year
- Maybe no drone/vibration issues?
- Possible 0.9% with December to Remember?
- Possible better incentives?
- Higher resale
- Third row?

If you do not need the third row would buy now. How about $14-15,000 off. Don't know what part of California you live but I used LA. Went to Cars.com and looked at 2016's certified which actually have a better warranty than a new one. Without bargaining you could get for $45,000. Lexus is #1 in reliability by J D Power for 6 years in a row. A 2016 RX with 15-20,000 miles is brand new. Invest the $8,000 savings in a college 529 plan and in eighteen years it should be worth around $45,000.

The decision about whether it makes more sense to be buying a 2017 RX or a 2018 RX depends, to a large extent, on how long you are likely to keep the vehicle.
As we move toward the time when the 2018 RX will be available, there should be significant incentives, both advertised and unadvertised, that Lexus offers to dealers to help them reduce their inventories of the remaining 2017 vehicles. With those incentives, you are likely to be able to buy a 2017 RX in the late summer and early fall for several thousand dollars less than what you would be pay for a 2018 RX shortly after they become available.
While the savings of as much as $4000 that come with buying the 2017 are nice, you should take into account that, if you buy the 2017, you are buying a car that is already "last year's model" and whose value has already gone through its first year of (huge) depreciation. If you are likely to keep the car for 2 or 3 or 4 years, the trade-in or re-sale value of the 2017 RX will be less than that of the 2018 RX by an amount that is likely to equal or be very close to the amount that you might have saved by buying the 2017. On the other hand, if you are likely to keep the vehicle for 6 or 7 years or longer, by the time you sell or trade the vehicle, the difference in value between the 2017 and the 2018 will become much smaller as each additional year passes.
So, if you will be keeping the vehicle for 7 or 8 years, it likely would make sense to save some money by buying the 2017. But, if you are likely to be keeping the vehicle for a shorter period of time, you might as well buy the 2018 because much, if not most, of what you save at the time of the vehicle purchase will be lost at the point when you sell or trade it in, and, in that case, you might as well enjoy whatever changes/improvements that come with the 2018. While the 2018 RX will likely not have many changes from the 2017, minor changes, such as (possibly) moving from the Generation 9 navigation system to the new Generation 10 navigation system might be nice to have.

In that thread I posted this....
"The order books are available to Dealers in August 2017. If placed early they will be on the ground at the Dealer in October 2017"
My dealer is going to be ordering mine in August and says he will have it in the showroom some time in October, 2017
As for purchase now or wait till 2018. If you are keeping it for 6-8 years I would be getting the 2017. Agree with lesz...good advice!

buy in september october when the 2018s are about to come out if you don't need a third row.
NO real change. MAYBE a kick to open rear trunk since it's offered in the 2018 NX.

In the same boat as well and interested to see what others have to say.
I might wait for a 2018 as inventory on a FWD F-Sport in color I want is slim here in So Cal. Also the savings I get now on a 2017 would likely be a wash when I go to sell later at a higher value being a year newer.

Just spoke to my dealer and he's says if you are not in a hurry and still want a 2017 there will be much better lease/financing rates coming in September/October plus additional discounts from Lexus and the dealerships. Of course there will be less selection so that's a chance you take.

I buy a lot of cars. This will be my 6th car in 7 years from this dealer. I usually get cost on a new model plus a small fee.. I also send them business and buy other things from them. I never worry about price at this dealership.
